Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I am looking for a bike of puttering about on crappy country lanes and canals and general off road. I have no intention of getting into downhill but would like to a good mountain bike for general stuff that my road bike can't handle.
I am 5ft4 and don't want to spend a bucket load.
    What would you suggest?
Does it need front and back suspension?
    What does "hard-tail" mean?
What frame-size/wheel size am I looking for?

Anyone care to add a few words of wisdom?

hard tail means that it has no rear suspension. Each make has a different take on sizing so look at a few sites and get an idea but I'd say you're looking at S or M frames
