Tipp supporters cycling to Dublin on Saturday next

As posted on another thread a group of approximately 12 Tipp supporters will be cycling to Dublin on Saturday next ahead of the All Ireland on Sunday. One group will leave Nenagh at 9am while another group will leave Thurles at the same time. We will meet in Roscrea and cycle together to The City West Hotel. Any cyclists willing to tag along would be more than welcome, provided you wear blue and gold! Perhaps Dublin based Tipp cyclists might like to meet our group somewhere along the way. From a cycling point of view this will be a leisurely jaunt, averaging approx 25-26km for the trip. We will have food stops in Mountrath and Kildare (bring a few euro) and the plan is to reach our destination between 3 and 3.30. Approx timing:

    Roscrea 10.30
    Mountrath. 11.30
    Portlaoise 12.25
    Kildare. 2.00
    Newbridge. 2.20
    Naas. 2.45

    Any takers?

You're seriously limiting options there! :D

Best of luck with it all the same! :)

They're going on Saturday but the game is not on till Sunday. Haven't a clue what they're doing with the bikes. Surely they can lock them to a lamp post in Dublin. Bikes don't get robbed in Dublin sure 😜

And the Kilkenny supporters would like to know what time you expect to be passing underneath the overpass in Portlaoise. :D

Apologies for late replies - to answer the question about storing bikes, we have a backup van travelling behind and will be used for storing bikes overnight. We are also delighted that Paralympian and Rio hopeful Peter Ryan and his tandem pilot will be joining us on the trip. Also we are currently running the Women on Wheels programme in Nenagh and many of the participants will cycle the first 20km with us - details here:

There will be a few updates here: www.twitter.com/northtippcyclin

Thanks for good wishes, this is mainly about having a bit of fun through cycling, the challenge is way below that of the ROK and the Sean Kelly as it is totally flat and generally speaking a good road all the way. I am however a little apprehensive about the Naas to Kingswood section - don't like passing the on/off ramps!

Yes that section can be intimidating at times as drivers coming down the slip roads don't expect to encounter bikes on the hard shoulder to their right. The hard shoulder of the dual carriageway along there also has a fair bit of debris - steel bolts, pieces of truck tyres etc.

OP theres a route that will take you to Rathcoole and Saggart, from as far back as Kilcullen ( from where its a snip into the city centre on the N81 ). Ive cycled it a few times and from Naas onwards its actually quite pleasant.
