but I want the SD card functionality back that Lollipop restores.

That would be great, never knew that was in the Lollipop update. Might try and manually update like a previous poster here did. Hope I won't make a balls of it though!

There's a post on xperiablog that details the whole lot, very easy to understand.

    Folks,

Has anyone got an update for the Z3 Compact? I know with the Xperifirm tool there's updates for Internal use. Would that work?

There should be something from the Nordics and Baltic regions for the compact, it's been out a few week according to this post.
I used those regions on my phone and tablets and they were perfect.
Are you looking at the build numbers or are you looking at the latest releases on xperiafirm? build numbers is better.
If you have a D5803 then installing 23.1.A.0.690 should do the job I think, make sure you double check though.

Any idea on when the z3 tablet will get the update? My brothers z3 compact phone got an update last week, no sign of anything for the tablet yet.

I use dolphin and have no issues. You could try it for comparisons.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,597 ✭✭✭brevity

Cheers. Might have to make the switch. Things are slowing down on Chrome and Firefox.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,597 ✭✭✭brevity

Just playing around with Dolphin now and it much better. Thanks for the heads up.

Don't know why boards is so poor on Chrome...

Just wondering does anyone know how to display the time an sms message was sent to my phone? It shows the time it delivered but thats fairly bloody useless since I hear it being delivered (95% of the time anyway). i.e. If I've just turned on my phone obviously I know what time the message delivered at, but how do I know when it was sent??

I got the Android 5 system update alert this morning. Its about 600MB.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,327 ✭✭✭Chuck_Norris

Go the update alert as well myself. Has anybody had the battery draining issues after installing it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,597 ✭✭✭brevity

Haven't installed mine just yet, will try and get it done at some point today though. Hopefully it doesn't bring a load of issues with it, the phone has been pissing me off of late.

Oh really? What sort of issues have you been experiencing? I've not had any thankfully. Just don't like the thoughts of having to do a factory reset.

All I'm getting is "Could not download" It might be hit hard at the moment with people trying to pull it down

Its just a bit sluggish...kinda stutters when browsing. I posted above that chrome and boards' touch website. Browsing through Twitter can be temperamental as well.

I know battery savers and task killers are frowned upon but I've had to resort to using du speed booster to help me out.

Hopefully this update will sort things out.

Got that too this morning (I'm with Vodafone) but I've hit the download every half hour or so and it's downloading now.

Where do you check for updates? Is it Settings > About Phone > Software Update? Nothing new yet for me. How long does the whole process take and does it render the phone unusable during updating?

So just updated and it looks pretty but the performance is very poor. Transitions between apps is awful at the moment. Will keep messing around with it anyways.

EDIT: just after I typed this it starts to improve :)

    EDIT 2: Its flying!

Yeah and you get a notification anyway. Takes about 15-20mins and the phone is not usable.

Takes about 15 mins to download. You can work away as normal when that's happening.

After that the actual update took about half an hour on mine. It optimises all of your apps. I've about 300.
The phone isn't usable during the update.

Thanks folks, will save it for the evening time so :) Update still not available anyway!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 172 ✭✭dublindiehard

Where do you turn 4G on in the update? There's no longer an option in the notifications area?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,718 ✭✭✭AstraMonti

There is, just click on that pencil icon, hold the 4g down and pull it out on the quick menu.

Got the update myself earlier just waiting for the battery to charge to install it

  • Moderators, Home & Garden Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 7,722 Mod ✭✭✭✭delly

Update went through over the afternoon and having had a quick look, it is running fine. Only issue is the bluetooth smart unlocking. The SWR10 smartband doesn't work anymore, which is a major feature for me!!! Looking online there are half baked ways around it, but they are only bad workarounds. Additionally when unlocking now, you have to swipe up, then enter pin. An extra step for no reason?!

update installing on mine now. What differences am I going to notice?

I'm about to install this, but has anyone noticed any slowdown or battery drain?

A friend installed it earlier and says that Chrome is very laggy, so I'm weary about trying it?

Just installed it now and it looks great, two minor issues for me in multi-task there is no option to close all the apps together or maybe im just not seeing it,and also the quick settings you can't add the sound options anymore.

There isn't an close all anymore. You can control the volume using the vol rocker. One click will bring up the menu. Not ideal but seems to be the only way bar a widget

Chrome has been laggy for me as well but that was even before the update.

I think they changed something in Chrome recently because it's performance is shocking.

I'm slightly cautious as to whether to install this or not. I'd kind of hope that the battery drain issues that were high lighted after the lollipop update with other manufacturers have been ironed out on the Z3. You'd kinda hope thay have, given that Sony have had 6 months to work on it!

    Yup it's Android 5.0.2

Ok,thanks. I'll download it later. Are reviews of it a bit mixed though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,597 ✭✭✭brevity

After an slow start, i've been very impressed with it so far. Some changes which take a bit of getting used to but definitely worth the upgrade baring in mind I've haven't noticed any battery problems.

Not lollipop related but is there a way to copy and paste text, I have quite a lot of notes saved as a SMS draft and I want to copy the text from them.

I would agree, it does seem quicker if anything. The Bluetooth unlocking is my only issue, even with the car kit it didn't work right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,841 ✭✭✭✭cormie

This isn't related to lollipop as it was happening before the update but sometimes I'd add a contact, it would "check contacts" and would appear fine, but then the next time I go to contact I notice the contact I saved is no longer there. I've thousands of contacts as I use my phone for business and use a customer number sequence so it's easy to notice when the previous contact hasn't saved properly and it's happened a few times on me now :( Hasn't yet happened with lollipop but I did notice when lollipop loaded, the last contact I had saved on KitKat was no longer there.

Just updated. Keep getting a warning sign saying Google play services needs updating. I open it and it only says uninstall or open. Clicked uninstall which then gave option to update which I did. Warning notification still popping up at the top...

I had the same, but it appears to have downloaded in the background. Error message is gone anyway.

That happened to me as well, I cleared the notification and it went away. Quite annoying tbh.

I just pressed back to go into the landing page of the app if you know what I mean and it went away.

Same thing happened to me, I just restarted the phone & it went away.

The way lollipop manages silent mode is a real pain in the arse too.

Yeah, one of my handiest apps that I used, more often than I even noticed, was Widgetsoid which put a little toggle widget on my home screen, one of the toggles was a quick switcher between Sound+Vib/Vib/Silent, now when I click it it goes Sound+Vib/Vib/Priority and doesn't go to silent on another push :( Not sure if it's best waiting a widgetsoid update (probably won't come if lollipop has been out 6 months already) or just disable priority altogether and make priority my silent mode..

Agree 100% on this one. Total PITA.

A few things annoy me with the update. First, having to swipe up instead of right is annoying, considering I've been doing the latter for 6 months. Only small, but will get used to it.

Second, the way you have to tap the pull-down menu after, well, pulling it down to open up the options is annoying. Can't really see the point of it. Why pull down the notification bar if you already know there are no notifications?

Lastly, the amount of transparency added means some colour schemes look ugly. I changed my colour scheme to one of the default Sony white schemes and it looks better. But before that, there were clashing colours all over the place.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 172 ✭✭dublindiehard

Quick trick for silent mode is to just push the volume rocket up or down and then touch the silent option that comes up.

Has anyone else noticed the lack of any kind of LED notifications?
