I'm struggling to remember what size the Rankin tent is.

Judging from the general interest in here I would have expected Hopkins to be in the Electric Arena but a packed out tent for that set in relatively small tent could be magic. Just need to make sure to be in situ early enough.

They have it to themselves on Friday, and it's back to normal business on the two other days?

the map has a separate Despacio tent.
the whole point of Despacio is that there's no "stage" and that there's speakers all around you.
i really can't see them moving everything into Rankin Woods stage for Friday, leaving the Despacio tent empty for that night, then moving all the stuff to the Despacio tent on Saturday morning and putting the Rankin Woods stage back to normal.

Agree, Despacio's facebook suggests they're playing their own tent all three nights too

2008 was Grace Jones followed by Underworld. Same again this time. Hope it's as good

Hopkins only on for an hour. And clashing with 30 minutes of Blur :(

But maybe they're expecting much greater crowds for Despacio on the Friday, and need a bigger venue for that night only. It's possible that the Despacio tent would be one of the closed venues on Friday, with Rankin Woods substituting that night only. Overnight re-configuring of the speaker setup in one tent doesn't seem like an impossibility. They wouldn't have to pull the stage down.

    But who knows?

I'm hearing from someone involved in setup that despaco definitely has separate tent close to circus and global green area.

yes, I've seen the detailed site map (leaked here but subsequently removed). It's located beside the circus and funfair.

Some humble pie and a retraction of that comment perhaps 😎. Blur confirmed as closing main stage on Saturday

Its baffling having them on so late and its totally inconsistent with how they ve planned things for saturday night in the past.

I am confused by despacio too, will just have to wait and see.

    Some day/stage breakdowns

    Friday - Grace Jones, Underworld

Saturday - Hot Chip, Sam Smith, Blur late night, Jon Hopkins in Rankin

    Sunday - Interpol, Manics, Flo

Despacio tent is actually the Rankin tent

The site survey map released last week showed a separate tent named Despacio located in the main arena near the Hendrix entrance, Melvin Benn did also say something about it being a stand alone stage.

Main stage Saturday at 5.15 should be good for a laugh

the Rankin tent is big enough, think a step up from the Little Big Tent but not as big as Electric Arena.
I'm also surprised that Hopkins isn't in Electric Arena, but like you said, get there early and all is grand.

I remember getting in early for Richie Hawtin in the Little Big Tent...it was actually great savouring the excitement and knowing I had a good spot in the tent. Place was jammers by the time he came on, but it made for a stunning two hours :)

Saturday is already chocka, FI, Battles, Hot Chip, Jon Hopkins, Blur and Shamir. Think Low are to play Saturday too. Christ.

a part of me would like to see them in a small tent but early on the main stage will be good too, less chance of clashes and more importantly more space for Samuel's moves.

the time for Manic Street Preaches is also wrong, says they're on from 20:45-20:00, when it should presumably be 22:00 that they're finishing.

perhaps they are including time travel as part of their stage show? Put that in your pipe and smoke it Kanye :D

It says Gavin James is on the Rankin stage with Despacio on sunday, surely that's a mistake?? I think ill wait for official times etc from EP themselves as this doesn't look right.

Gavin James also playing other voices stage?

Could the fantastic folk behind the App let us know when that might be up and running.

Also, perhaps if you could let us know your paypal account details so we can buy you a pint for all the hard work :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,413 ✭✭✭Fatfrog

Fook me no work will be done this week!!!

For me personally I think I'll catch Hopkins first, then the last bit of Blur.

I think EP have underestimated the crowds Hopkins will pull?

Both Apps are ready. Waiting on Apple to approve the iOS one (its been a week so hopefully over the next 24 hours).

I will definitely push the Android app this evening and probably do an update Wednesday (a couple of extra features I want to implement).

Tonight I will put the link for the Android app on this thread.

I'm a bit confused on the Despacio thing though .. although it doesn't really affect the apps.

If you wanna but me a pint, I will be at the meet up at Salty Dog on Friday @ 5, wearing this T-Shirt:

Sunday Night in Rankins Wood looks terribly like a Little Big Tent line up.

I can't see Despacio pulling the whole thing down on Saturday morning .. All along it has been their own tent for 3 days. Its on that map we saw... I predict Rankins wood will not open on Friday .. 3 nights in the Despacio tent.

It's been the policy at every Irish festival I've ever been to that they do not accommodate broadcasting any sporting event

these times were sent out by EP via their PR Company.

i'm pretty sure they did the same thing last year though and there were mistakes.

Oxegen broadcast World Cup games and i think a few GAA matches.
EP shows GAA matches in the Pubail Gaeilge tent.

Is there a bar at Salty Dog?

I am 90% unsure that I had pints up there before ...
