It's bruising of the pubic bone- doesn't sound like something that can be fixed by surgery.

Not a ringing endorsement for Holland though.

Rest is the cure, but there is a surgical procedure as well.
In cases where Osteitis Pubis does not respond to conservative treatment within 12 months, some surgeons advocate a surgical approach. This is particularly the case if there is mechanical instability at the Pubic Symphysis. The surgeon uses a plate and screws across the joint to restore stability. Crutches are required for around 3 weeks and a return to sports is not possible before three months. The mechanism of surgical treatment is poorly understood. It could be that the restoration of stability reduces abnormal stresses, alternatively pain may be resolved by cutting through local nerve tissue. Of course it could be that the extended rest period is helpful.

    Osteitis Pubis Prevention

Over training should be avoided, particularly by those who participate in long or repetitive kicking sports. Core Strength and Core Stability exercises can improve muscle function across the trunk and pelvis. Core strength exercises on a mat using a Swiss Ball and Resistance Bands are ideal, because the improved muscular strength and stability can help to counteract the large forces that are applied to the lower abdomen and pelvis. This can reduce the risk of developing Osteitis Pubis.

It wouldn't have been fair on Holland to throw him into that for his first competitive start.

Holland should have been brought on. I think he has played 15 before, you could put him there for goal kicking.

Penney was terrified to use Holland last year. Foley wouldn't give him 15 minutes at home against Edinburgh. Could he have done worse than Keatley in the closing stages?

You'd have to ask why he's there.

He is still very young (and came through the Youth Systems rather than schools, so will be a bit behind on the development curve).

He is 3rd choice at the moment if all were fit (and probably 4th when Bleyenthal arrives).

Holland is 23 been in academy 3 years and now on a development contract. He wouldn't be behind on development curve considering the strength of his club side in Highfield(won several provincial age grade titles and an all Ireland u18 title) and his involvement in Munster/South Munster sides.

Holland is a year older than Hanrahan. Surely he's at a stage where you can put him into the Pro12 to sink or swim.

Yes he nearly is at stage where he is at sink or swim. He isn't on an academy contract any more and is fighting for future with Munster as he's only on 1 year development contract.

I'm sure he would relish the opportunity too!

And JJ came through schools and has all that underage representative experience with Ireland.

I just think that maybe they didn't want to throw him into a game like that for his debut.

That was an Edinburgh side minus a few main players. Keatley was struggling and I thought Holland would have been used. He's played plenty A rugby at this stage.

Embra weren't short a whole lot of players to be honest, but Holland could have done with the entire second half.

I'm thinking a lot of posters on here last night are going to be very quiet after this evenings game
    :)

Keatley is a good player... but yeah, I don't think he'll ever be top class. I'd have given Holland a run. Because he is 3rd choice atm, he's probably going to have to be used at some stage, why not give him a go?

Obviously when Bluyendaal comes, he'll slip down the pecking order.

JJ had some real moments of class last season, won games with them. I think he can be the 10 this season, with Keatley at 12. I think SH was the real problem last night though.

Perhaps, Grant Gilchrist, Matt Scott and Dave Denton were out anyway.

Well I'd prefer to lose by a point to Glasgow away than Edinburgh at home.

Leinster lost to the second best team in the competition away.

    Munster lost to Edinburgh.

Take a look at your own team fella before adding this kind of poison to the forum.

Molester and Teferi, quit with the personal insults. Attack the post, not the poster. If you have a problem with a post use the Report Post button. Last warning, bans will be issued if this continues.
