It's that time of year again. Who do you fancy for the mens and womens? After seeing Ryf in the flesh in CPH I'm looking forward to seeing how she does here. She was cruising in CPH. Granted there wasn't any competition but she still looked top class. Can Heather Jackson finally get on the top step?

The battle of the Germans should be epic in the mens race. I don;t think Gomez looked sharp last weekend so he might be targeting this weekend?

Very hard to look past Gomez in the mens though.

Not looking Sharp in ITU may not be an indicator of his 70.3.
In saying that, up against Frodo and many more who have been more focussed on the distance compared to him may show up any weaknesses.

Wide open, Frodo burned on the run last year so who knows.

    In the Mix:
    - Javier Gomez
    - Jan Frodeno
    - Sebi Kienle
    - Terrenzo Bozzone
    - Lionel Sanders, bit of a swim weakness, similar to Kienle but killer run splits.
    - Tim Don
    - Andy Starykowicz
    - Andreas Dreitz
    - Felip Ospaly
    - Bart Aernouts
    - Ivan Rana

So the ITU contingent of lead pack:
    Gomez, Frodo, Don, Rana
The others could be close - Bozzone, Aernouts, Ospaly, Dreitz, Starky,
Then the bikers to chase of Kienle, Sanders, maybe Fromhold
Can they catch the ITU guys?
Hilly course would suggest yes if in top shape.

Can Sanders run as fast as Frodo, Gomez and co?

Should be close racing you'd imagine, with someone blowing up or getting it wrong unexpectedly as well.

    Gonna shoot for:
    1 - Frodo
    2 - Don
    3 - Sanders

    Kienle for Kona then...

    Womens:

    Hauschild
    Kessler
    Frederickson (just won Hy-Vee)
    Wurtele
    Luzford
    Ryf
    Swallow

    I'd go with:

    Ryf
    Hauschild
    Frederickson

Hoping for some more camera shots of Kienle, Sanders and co going like a train through the field.
Wouldn't be surprised to see the swim difference being less than 2 mins either and them leading off the bike, as Kienle has nailed it the last 2 years.

This. really fancy him to come right at Kona. seems to be on a good year. guess this race will tell a lot about where his main target is

You say this then don't put him in your predicted top 3 :)

I'd love to see Gomez smash this....

Edit: Is there a live feed this year? They used to have okay coverage of Las Vegas, remember seeing those pictures of Kienle passing other pro's for fun.

Makes a mockery of a World Championship race.

Siri Lindley gave better coverage of the race on Instagram than WTC did.

Sorry, that's gone straight over the top of my head. Did I miss something?

Think Siri is a WTC "friend" and close collaborator.

WTC like to keep some athletes close and use as partners etc - see Crowie and his Choc Milk and IM pr stuff. And lack of racing a Challenge race etc.

Absolute uber draft fest I heard from a real top end elite AGer I know that went to it. Got absolutely smoked at 85km by peleton of 30+, he reckoned there was much bigger groups out there bunched also. Was extremely unhappy and disappointed after putting in an honest effort of 4:22.
