Peter made the cut at the Spanish Open on the number, +6 yesterday and +3 today (almost equivalent to level par, given how hard it was playing).

Very happy to see that. I feared the worst after yesterday. He won't get many chances this year so missing cuts is a no-no.

Finished on +17 and tied 53rd, cheque for €7,400. His first 72 hole outing since the Open D'Italia last September.

I wonder how many events he will get into this year. He is very popular and well connected but he has a very minor card. Getting into the top 115 from the chances he has will be an enormous task.

Was this week just his second paycheque of the year?

You have to say that it makes sense. I'm sure he will keep the clubs warm with an eye on the senior tour down the road and no doubt he will play a fair bit in the meantime.

Exactly what I was thinking - he could do OK on the serior tour if he keeps playing.

The last couple of seasons have been miserable for him, and also for his family, I'm sure. I'm delighted that he has this job in Luttrelstown, and I hope it goes well for him - always struck me as a really nice guy.

Good luck in the future, hard to keep going at a high level when your not quite there. Honest assessment from him and a good decision, all the travel must be a grind, any sport should be enjoyed, whatever standard you play.

Has his good friend Damien McGrane given up the tour too?

Shame as I enjoyed supporting both in their peak in the mid to late 00's. Both were great Irish lads to look out for on your regular european tour events.

I thought Damian officially retired at the end of last season, though he went to Q school and got a card.

Brilliant interview with Peter on Off the Ball during the week, very interesting guy & comes across very well.

They mentioned they might try to get him on to talk golf a bit more regular in the future, seems to have a few good ideas on where the game should be heading.

Sad to say that Peter did not make the field for the Portugal Masters. He was on the entry list late last week but was several notches below the cut-off point, he now appears to have withdrawn his entry so that ends his career as a regular on the European Tour.

Here's wishing him well in his new position as director of golf at Luttrellstown Castle and hopefully he will qualify for or get an invitation to the Irish Open and a few other tournaments in the future.
