This little fella joined up with the cows about 2 months ago, I'm assuming his mother died and he took refuge with the first thing he came across. Was even loading a few cows the other day to move them up the road a bit and he ran up in the trailer with them. Never seen or heard of it to happen before.

Think would someone have dumped him or he escaped ? I think he looks like a milking breed .
A mate of mine reared a suck calf on a goat like that last year after weaning her kids !

Id doubt it where he appeared first, hundreds and hundreds of wild goats on the mountains around here and they are all different colours.

latest additions I bought for the herd, oldest is '07 then '08,'09 and '11 all with bull calves at foot, hoping the shorthorn/Saler in them will give me a few years more out of them.

It's probably a good time to be buying suckler cows if you have a few pound and plenty of silage.

A poster here put up prices of cows they sold and my jaw nearly hit the floor they so low. Was thinking if beef price was right next year that fattened suckers should make €2/kglw.

Ah he's doing ok on the rope considering he's never been tied on it. Heifer clattered me with a kick though, pregnancy hormones must be at her :D

KZH (Kilskeagh Hill 16) out of a Castleview Casino heifer who herself is out of a Tarot cow. So good bit of milk in the last two crosses.
He'll be 13 months shortly so am quite happy with how he's done.

About 2kg a day, give or take. Can vary according to the bale as he'll eat that & leave the nuts behind.
Prob stick him on DD shortly, waiting on the vet to ring him, said he'll do it when he's passing by the house so no C/O charge :P

Would lads insist on getting him fertility tested?
Have 2 PBR LIM bulls here myself. Was going to keep them till the spring.

I haven't done so in the past but see in the IFJ this week that the Carrick sales next Sat are advertised as having all fertility tested. This chap definitely has swimmers working as the ch heifer with him is incalf to him :D Not ideal as she's calving at 22 months but the two are best mates and we can keep them separate to the shed cows & weanlings this way.
