A fair achievement to even find a pit with silage in it to jump on these days...
If she tried it on the side of the pit, she'd need to be levitating:p

That and it removes any old dead grass so that the healthy grass can grow

    What’s sulcan?

Would sweet grass be any better?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,741 ✭✭✭CloughCasey1

I have only ever used sweetgrass on grazing ground. Never thought of using if on silage ground.☺

12 month old weanling Bulls, out of ardlea Dan stock bull, 2 are out of the lmxfr cows. Hopefully going in the next 2 weeks

Sold 4 of these last night.

    400kg's March born €1,020 3/4 bred LM
350kg's Feb born €800 (a runt) LM cow who will be culled
405kg's March born €1,080 LMxFR cow
375kg's March born €935 LMxFR cow

Given the nuts and silage that they have eaten over the winter, it really didn't pay to keep these, I'd have got €800 last October. Ah well everyday is a school day.

Nothing made out of them this winter, I brought a few good heifers to gort a few weeks ago because I hadn't time to spend the day in ennis with them. I was nearly insulted with what I was getting for them. It's not the first time I said it but never again will I bring cattle there. Worst Mart in the country to sell cattle in.

Does that mean it's the best to buy in.

The old man would always have gone to Newport and SMB marts. Would buy in both but only ever sell in SMB. Always said Newport was a buyers mart.

Never bought anything there so can't say pasty, last few times I was there there were very little farmers buying or actually in around the ring at all. The commission is a joke there and you have to wait 2 weeks for the cheque aswell. Them heifers will be going to ennis soon enough again, I'll let you know the difference in price.

Been away from AI for a while. Used bulls for several years. Had six heifers for AI this winter. Used two Red Angus bulls and one Limousine bull. Started AI'ing cows, going to use Charolais (Tweeddale Lookout), INRA95, Blonde, Piedmontese and BB. In summer will have eight heifers for AI. Will use Blonde on six, Piedmontese on two and AngusxSalers on one.

Preg checked two the most questionable heifers today. Both pregnant. Other four will be checked after a couple days.
Checked heifers: this one should be incalf to Limousine (Ryde UranosxNenuphar bull).

    This one- to Red Angus.

Asked AI man of him & warned there was a few calves with Birth defects
It could something on 1 herd

Will see, but straws already bought and used a couple. One was used today.
Used another INRA95 bull many years ago on one dairy cow. Nothing bad happened, easy calved and was a fine calf for a half dairy. Pity that a bull calf. Kill-out 58%.

    Fantastic heifers.
Thank you. Both sired by Limousine stock bull. One is 7/8Limo 1/8dairy, another is out of 1/4x(Angus,Salers,BB,dairy) cow.
