Not a bit too muscly. She's a beut. If she's enough milk she'll be a great cow.

Was just about to say the same thing, lovely stock Mac!

You mentioned before that a neighbour of yours had a nice FZF heifer. Did he keep and breed her?

No, they are by BZB. Sold that calf, 480 kgs at ten months off grass. Mother is 2 star but is my best commercial animal for producing quality stock.

Early March 5 star Gamin heifer. Weakest heifer this year unless she turns it around yet

    Hope this works....
Some of the cows and calves enjoying the sun yesterday
The BB is by DBZ and the fawn coloured heifer is by ZAG

hairy calf is 2 of the pics had an awful job with a swelled navel in the spring, took ages to clear,
thanks to Base Price for a bit of advice on keeping him alive.

Middle pic is my worst calf this year, cow has loads of milk calf is just narrow out
last pic is 3 generations of the same breeding, if they were all like that,

the ZAG calf is out of a heifer that calved at 23 months at the end of April, looking better now after a few months out, initially wasn't too impressed but she was easy enough calved which was the main thing

Anything with Castleview in the name will be easy calving. That's for sure. It's what they do afterwards that really counts.

Easy calving is top priority but I'd like to maybe get a replacement (or two) out of them.....time will tell I suppose.

    Nice cattle Blue.
What kind of ages and weights would you kill those cattle at?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 12,669 Mod ✭✭✭✭blue5000

Up until this year bulls were sold just under the 24 months, changing that to try get them gone u16 months next summer. Target is around 350kg dw. A lot of the heifers are 5 star maternal, might sell a few for breeding next spring or put them in calf for keeping myself. The red heifer with the brown (bull) calf at foot has an ebi of €148.
