    As mentioned before, turn off every appliance in your apt for at least an hour, more if you can manage. Take a reading right after you do this, and just before you turn everything off. This will allow you to see if there is anything else that's affecting the meter.

    This is what Electric Ireland will tell you to do also.

    2e is about the equivalent of a 3kw immersion element for 4 hours every morning.

    Sounds very excessive to me.
    You are either heating far too much water or your rate is disastrous. That's the only two real options. I'd be very surprised if a professional landlord was willing to invite that much hassle for a few euro. Programming a high rate yes.. Meter tampering no

    Tennents must be able control there own heating tat included in mim standards ;)
    Also as other poster said make sure its not taking 5euro when u topup thats how arrears is taken if bill not changed to your name

    Nothing really. The other tenants moved in and it actually was using the same amount so it worked out reasonable.... i still dont think the readings are legit but it's not much bother now

    You say it's an old meter, is it a (former) coin meter? is there a padlock on it?
