    Open Night
    Date: Thursday 18 September 2014
    Time: 8pm
Location: Crystal Leisure Centre, Cork Road, Waterford

Interested in history, crafts, learning to fight with sword and shield? Any or all of the above?

Then don't miss the opportunity to see if Deise Medieval has the hobby for you.

Deise Medieval is a living history and combat reenactment club based in Waterford. Our aim is to bring the medieval period to life in an engaging and enjoyable way. At present our main focus is Viking and early Norman, although members are also exploring other time periods. We are open to anyone over 18 to join. We are a family friendly club, and several members bring their families to events to participate. We have members from all walks of life, and through links and friendships we have established through the hobby, we have a network of friends from all over the world, from Australia to America.

In the past year we have been taken up with events such as the celebration of 1,000 years since the Battle of Clontarf and 1,100 years since the establishment of Waterford City, and many other events all over the country. We are part of a national and international reenactment community, and we intend travelling to events abroad in the next year as well as local and national events.

For our combat, we train to fight unscripted combat based on European rules, which enables us to fight with and against the best in Europe. There's nothing better than spending the day trying to kill your friends, knowing that you will be laughing about it around the campfire later. Fighting is not mandatory and is open to men and women.

For our living history we demonstrate medieval crafts such as cooking using authentic recipes and ingredients, weaving, woodwork etc. We also have a substantial village encampment that we can use to bring the past to life. Throughout the winter months, we also run workshops in various crafts.

If you are interested, come along and see what we do, and what's involved. If you think it may be for you, come along to a couple of sessions to try it out.
