I'm looking for some molasses sugar for a porter recipe (which I can't find!). Some threads suggest any brown sugar would do, but I'm worried this isn't a straight swap. Would a mix of treacle and brown sugar work? original recipe calls for 500g.

You hould be able to get molasses in a supermarket or health food store. Black treacle works very well in .... black treacle stouts :) and some in your porter could be good. 500g of black treacle added near the end of the boil was in the stout I tasted and liked. Are you adding this to kits or grains/extract with a 60 min boil ?

Thanks. I'll try the health store :)

    It's an extract recipe.
