I own a business which is doing quite well. Unfortunately I do not have the time to commit to coming up with and implementing an effective plan for social media in order to raise brand awareness and in turn push my business forward. I am sure there are companies out there that specialise in the management and maintenance of the various social media streams for companies. I am just wondering if anybody could give me a ballpark figure of how much something like this could cost on a per month basis.

    Hi there,
My sister has a pet (kennel) making business and is looking to do a six month social media plan. Did you get any costs from anyone as I haven't a clue how much this type of thing costs!

Post the job offer on freelancer, and from the freelancer biddings you can know the average prices.

That's really only going to give the OP an idea of how much the off-shore 'social media management' freelancers charge.

It's usually not the best idea to outsource the public face of your brand to a low-cost off-shore company.

I charge €150 per week and social media marketing for business is most effective on Facebook. Most of the other platforms are a waste of time with little to no business returns.

Its like saying how long is a piece of string. You need to have an idea of what you expect first and what KPIs/Goals you want to reach. A content calendar will need to be created (assuming you have content) and then posts will need to be made and optimised. Im assuming you have insights and Google Analytics set up.

The idea that 'most of the other platforms are a waste of time with little to no business returns' is complete madness. If someone says this run a mile.

If ever there's a perfect example of the dangers of 'social media managers' you've just demonstrated it.

The OP hasn't given any indication of his business or any clues as to the goals he's trying to achieve.

Imagine, I design and manufacture custom industrial energy management systems. How much do you think Facebook marketing is going to help me.

Perhaps I develop custom enterprise resource planning systems and I want customers to become familiar with my company. How is Facebook advertising going to achieve that?

While I have no doubt there are lots of companies that could benefit from Facebook marketing, it's far from the only option and it's a million miles away from being appropriate for all.

So graham you assume that the original poster is in some high end business that is not suitable for Facebook marketing in this country. Id rather rely on the OP than your imagination I am sure the OP will let us know what his business involves and chances are it will be ideal for Facebook advertising or maybe I am just imagining it is?

The only danger here is that your imagination will run away with itself!

    No, I don't.

You assumed they were suitable for Facebook marketing based on zero information.

There are a lot of 'social media managers' out there that appear to have next to no experience other than in setting up Facebook advertising. There's nothing wrong with that but it's probably better for all involved if such people clearly state they can only assist with Facebook marketing.

I would suggest anyone considering employing a social media manager asks:

Where did you learn your craft.
    What experience have you got.
What measurable results can you clearly demonstrate.
Is this your full time career or is this your bit-on-the-side business. If the latter, how successful has social media been in driving your main business forward.

It doesn't have to be some 'high end business'. Not all companies are suitable to marketing on FB due to either target demographic or some other factor. Its very easy to assume when its not your money. If I was looking for what the OP is and someone said to me I'm just going to post on Facebook because Twitter/Linkedin etc are totally useless and a waste of time I would laugh and run a million miles. Everyone thinks they can do social media marketing because they have a Facebook page with insights.

Sorry to go off track but out of interest what experience/qualifications do you have Bazdonegal?

'How much will it cost me' is such a very Irish SME-type question to ask. It doesn't mean it's not a good question, but here are some better ones:

    -What are my precise goals?
-How can I identify a good social media manager / agency?
-How can I determine their value?
-What channels are they proposing and why?
-Who have they worked with before and what did they achieve?

These are the questions you need to ask, especially as the online marketing / social media industry is rife with people 'having a go' for a few quid on the side - or even full time! As mentioned already, this becomes very apparent when those actually being paid for these services come out with blanket statements based on next to no information on the client's industry, their goals, the competition, etc..

You need to ask the above questions first, narrow down your selection, and then ask those on your shortlist for their analysis, critique, and assessment of your particular goals, your industry, your competitors, and so forth.

The right agency / specialist can work wonders for your business, but you need to invest time into identifying the right provider and the right strategy first.

People all around the world ask about prices first. Your actual elaboration is pretty much Irish way to talk to client.

Thanks @Bazdonegal, I was looking for something like that.

    see there's your mistake.

It's usually a better idea to explain what you want before asking for a price.

Not entirely sure what that means but either way if price is their primary concern or first question, they're not the kind of client you want.

Hi - I'm a Virtual Assistant and could help you - and to the other poster about the kennels - I'd love to help there as dogs are more important than humans to me :-)

I have an advert (under my username) with my contact details and we could discuss what you need. I'd very much assume it will be more than only Facebook.

The advert is new and not showing yet but you can PM me in the meantime.
