Inspired by this question that was asked by Ibetit in the "is this rude behavior?" thread, I thought I'd give it a thread of it's own.

Some good replies to that question so far in the other thread by
    Whoopsydaisydoodles: Matching Cutlery and Lawnmower,

    and also by
Jimgoose: a stick for mixing paint and lots of spare pillowcases. :D

I'm lacking a lawnmower from those suggestions, and not all of my cutlery matches, nor do all my pillowcases match either come to think of it.

I will add to the list:

One of those coin shaped things on your keyring for shopping trolleys.

    Candles incase electricity goes out.

[I haven't gotten around to getting these yet but keep thinking that I probably should, they never would have crossed my mind when younger.]

What about a despondent malaise which creeps into every aspect of life, causing you to silently wonder when the sweet merciful release of death will free you?

    Is that an item?

Never had one of them as a kid, just a loada coins shoved down the pocket if I was lucky. "Pocket money" they called it :) Usually was spent in the first sweet shop I went in to anyway so...

Anyone who needs a phase tester to wire a plug is doing something fundamentally wrong.

Plain white porcelain crockery, including teapot and butter dish.
100% cotton bedding with a thread count of 200 psi or above.
Two or three main courses you can cook perfectly.
    A spotless loo.
    A bedside lamp.
    Elegant shoes.
    Leather gloves.
A good fountain pen and wallet/purse.
An education (doesn't have to be formal).
Manners, and a willingness to use them.

A torch, spare fuses for plugs, spare lightbulbs, set of screwdrivers, travel adaptors, a nice suitcase, a good bag or shoulder bag large enough to carry a laptop or tablet, a tailored suit for the gents and a formal dress for women.

Hey I think we learnt (on paper) how to wire plugs in Home Ec in my all girl school. :P

That being said, just realised I've never actually had to wire a plug for anything ever, is that weird? I don't think I'd remember to do it though.

I have a few nice purses and wallets but never use them. I should start as I tend to lose money quite a bit.

Old habits I guess, I wouldn't wire a plug without one. Or a lighter.

Especially since sometimes having to use strip connectors thanks to the aforementioned EU.

I've got some of those things except spare fuses, fountain pen, leather gloves, and travel adaptor.

I really want a pretty cake/cupcake stand. It won't let me post an image.

I've never even made cupcakes but I want one! :)

I have 7 or 8 cake/cup cake stands. Trust me, it's a road you should think twice before going down.

I want a Bone China tea set, so I can go Mrs Bucket Level 1 when I have callers. :)

I'd add decent cookware to the list but I only use about three things repeatedly. A big pot, a small pot, and a casserole dish.

    Spare lightbulbs
Spare batteries for the smoke alarm
Spare batteries for pretty much anything
    Lots of spare bed clothes
Good quality iron / ironing board
    Stuff made from 'pyrex'
    Ramekins
'Good' glasses that only get used on Christmas Day
    Contents insurance
A gadget for opening the door on the gas / electricity meters
    A basic tool kit

I can assure you I didn't give 2 hoots about any of the above when I was 20. And now at the ripe old age of 32 I posses and know how to use, them all!!

I'll have to learn to drive first! I know some people think it's ridiculous that an adult never learnt to drive, but so far I've just never had to and I also couldn't afford to run a car. I will learn them some day though I'd say. Would be handy for when doing a big shopping.

All of the above, except a bedside lamp!

I'm going to add a duvet and pillows filled with natural materials - mulberry silk, down, or if money is a real problem, feathers. No comparison to the polyester stuff.

I've started collecting Wedgewood cutlery place settings and crystal stemware.

It's kind of sad how happy it makes me :(

Aw it's not sad at all. I don't own any myself, but I have slept on a feather pillow before and I'd say it would be worth buying one. :)

The only "ornaments" I currently have are two Coke bottles with our names in the fireplace. The day I get a china figurine or clock or something I'll consider myself grown up.

You will actually need one percent of it. You won't know which one percent until five seconds after it disappears into the back of the rubbish lorry.
