This has been standard practice for a few years now, you are lucky if it has just happened in your local branch.
The answer to your question is to reduce costs.

When is the money (including lost growth) Michael Noonan took in the Pension Levy going to be paid back?

    Hi 5437barryc,

    Thanks for post.

We removed the old lodgement boxes in November 2012 and these were replaced with Lodgement ATMs. You can lodge cash and domestic cheques using your card at any Lodgement ATM. Customers who do not have a card on their account will need to go to the cashier to make a lodgement.

    Thanks
    Tara

    Hi 5437barryc,

We've been in touch with the branch and they have asked us to apologise on their behalf for any delay you have experienced.

Unfortunately, this is bank policy and we have no plans to return to the old style lodgement boxes. Have you enquired about getting a card on your account?

    Thanks
    Tara

Or is it so they can charge money everytime the card gets used?

    Hi Timberrrrrrrr,

    Thanks for your post.

Staff assisted transactions, which include lodgements made at the branch counter, are charged at 40c each. Automated transactions, such as card lodgements/payments are charged at 20c each.

    Thanks
    Tara

Given that the lodgement 'post boxes' are gone, Is there any way for a non card holder to make a direct third party cash lodgement to my account now.

    Hi sheff the ref,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

As mentioned above, the old style lodgement boxes were removed from our branches two years ago.

A third party lodgement can be accepted at the cash desk, provided the branch in question has cash services on that day. Coin can only be accepted if fully bagged in the correct denominations. The majority of our branches accepted coin on Tuesdays from 10-12 and all day Friday with the exception of the branches listed here.

Please note, if the lodgement is a payment of rent, this may not be accepted at the cash desk. The person making the payment may be requested to make alternative arrangements, such as electronic transfer or standing order from their own account directly into your account.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks
    Tara
