2 15 inch tops, yamaha dxr 15 over 2 12 inch subs ev zxa1 (powered)

Are the tops too big for them, is there any disadvantage using 12s as in would they struggle to cope with the 15s?

On paper, it's a mismatch. The tops are 2200 W RMS and the subs are 1400 W RMS. However, with a 15" on the tops, some of the bass can be handled by the tops - with additional bass extension being handled by the subs. It's a weird way to do things, but it depends on the type of music, the size of venue and the SPLs. Under typical use though, I'd say you'll be running the tops well shy of the subs - those new Yamahas are very efficient. It's a FrankenSystem, but if it sounds good, go for it.
