Well Moser admitted that he used blood doping for his attempt. There are suspicions over 2 of the others in that list.

Blood doping wasn't illegal in in '84. The ban only came into place the following year.

55/14 was what he actually used.

So Alex Dowsett has also thrown his name into the ring. The list while none confirmed as of yet stands at Cancellara, Wiggo, Martin and Dowsett. I don't think Jensie is going to hold onto this one for very long. The person I really would love to see go at this is Martin...

    Yes, Dan Martin ;)

Moser's was done at altitude, surely being at 2400m conveys some decent aero benefits due to thinner air etc?

Head has been frimly buried in the sand the past week, and missed all this, delighted to see he did it, fair play.....reading the thread was almost as exciting as watching it live, im sure....!

But the laws of physics and biology were still in effect I think.

Still, with that list he can hold on to the "over 40s" title which is still an impressive feat. I thought this was a great move by Voigt as he transitions into his new career in punditry or whatever - a great talking point and he may have created for himself a pundit's job for all the attempts that will follow.

Merx did it in Mexico IIRC. Are there are altitude restrictions in the new rules?

Don't believe so - can't see any mention of it. I reckon its just one of the parameters that any contender has balance - reduced air resistance versus not having enough oxygen. When Lance was considering going for the hour record in the mid-noughties, it was rumoured that he was going to construct a velodrome at some ridiculously high location, set the record and then dismantle the velodrome to prevent anyone else having access to it!

Michael Hutchinson also mentions in his book that riders could also adjust the air temperature in the velodrome to suit their bid.

What's the outdoor hour record? 59:47?

AFAIK there is no allcomers record in Ireland so if you want to give Sundrive a go....

I think we can still count that as an unfair advantage.

An amazing achievement for a 43 year old domestique who isn't even a TT specialist. Glad Sosenka's record is gone.

The Irish record is around 47km, I cant find the link and it doesnt seem to be in the CI yearbook. theres no Sundrive 1hour record, unless its buried away in archives.

Does it have to be in a velodrome?

yes, it can be outdoor velodrome but majority of outdoor velodromes are slower than indoor

I'm hoping Lusk_Doyle gives the allcomers a go. Then I'm thinking of building a velodrome somewhere in the Wicklow mountains that I will knock down once I get the record....:)

I make it 103 rpm so. So much for the guys who tell me I should be TTing at 90 ...

Everyone's different. They reckon though that pursuiters and TT'ers typically go quite a bit higher on gearing than sprinters and bunch racers

I've been working on cadence over the past couple of years and am now comfortable at getting on for 100rpm over 10 miles anyway (or was last time I did one, which was just over a year ago!) - the year before I was typically in the high 80s/low 90s

Yep, think it said 102 on the screen on Eurosport.

Oh, according to this presenter the record is currently held by a Russian guy, Ondrej Sosenko.

And here was me thinking it was the Czech rider Ondrej Sosenka :o

Yeah! Ashley House @ Eurosport should get his facts straight next time. Shame!

Is there a reason for the 55/14 ? is it cadence ? ie. he's worked out that just over 100rpm will do it at that gear ?

If he had went with a 51/13 it would have been a little bit easier, 105.9 gear inches versus 106.1, so maybe he could have spun it a bit faster/easier ?!
/caveat : I may not know what I'm talking about :pac:

    Q. What kind of power was he maintaining ?

Was he actually measured on the distance the bike covered - i.e. A bike mounted sensor or similar, or on the number of laps he did, which might imply a minimum distance calculated per lap regardless of the actual distance covered?

    I heard 412W

Entirely based on the number of laps at 250m per lap.

It was possible to ride below the black line which would slightly reduce the distance. In practice he was typically riding well above the black line. I reckon he was probably averaging an extra 5m a lap or more, which over the hour may have meant he did another km or so.

didnt they have barriers/foam/obstacles in the cote d'azur to prevent him from cycling under the black line?

No - that was to stop him cycling on the cote d'azur. It's perfectly legal (but very difficult) to ride beneath the black line. I think it's 10cm extra track which is worth just under 63cm a lap!

I read an interview where they reckon he covered an extra 400 metres over the hour, not too bad because I reckon even accomplished track riders like wiggins would probably end up 100/200 extra covered

Wiggins confirms he's planning to give it a go next year. Reckon if he prepares properly we could be looking at something approaching 54 or even 55km

I saw that. Reckon he'd set a massive record. Even Martin couldn't beat it, with Wiggins' track history
