Im not sure I know there is a backlog so id imagine they will take a full class. Unfortunately it's based on where you are on the list so those who are waiting longer will have first choice on the September class, I hope I get the September class I don't want to wait anymore

    Hey Guys,

Did my medical last week in HQ, passed everything except colour vision test. Doctor sent me to a local opticians for a 2nd opinion. The specialist did the test and said that i was borderline but wrote on the report that she wouldn't class me as having a colour defect!!!
Will the opticians report be accepted does anyone think??? Anyone else failed on this test???

I wouldn't worry mate I was borderline under BMI and the doctor in HQ said he was going to pass me and give me a chance but told me if I wanted full time Id have to bulk up.

Hopefully, but the BMI can be worked on but the colour vision can't. The optician said I was borderline but she would be reluctant to fail me on the results. So hopefully they accept that in HQ. Out of the 15 card test I got only 2 wrong!!
Has anyone had the same issue??

Arklow -> Templemore : Bus - about 6 1/2hours, maybe travel down the day before your training.
    Arklow -> Templemore : Train - about 6hours.

Have a look at Get There right here.
Maybe you might know someone who could drop you down though?

    Thanks,

I'll have to ring tomorrow September is the only dates that suit me. When did you do the medical ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 394 ✭✭Cedric87

I see you did the medical a year ago why the wait for training there have been a number of classes since then. Have you turned down dates or have they not been offered since your medical

Lads I got a phonecall a few weeks ago about dates and I confirmed on the phone I could do September but still no confirmation email...panic is setting in..:(Cedric when did you do the medical?

  • Registered Users Posts: 67 ✭✭Redzer99

Lads I'm in the same boat, I competed a medical in April 2015 and received a phone call a couple of weeks ago regarding my preference for training dates. Still waiting on word back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 394 ✭✭Cedric87

Seems to me we are all in the same boat lads. I done the medical in June and had a call about two groups for training one in September and one in November and like yourselves ive yet to get that email to confirm.

I was told last time I rang that there is a list and it's all to do with what number you are on the list. Offers will be made to the people who have been on the list the longest so it's a waiting game. If not September then I would say most likely November.

    Hi Guys,

I got word this morning that i passed the eye test in the medical after failing it in HQ last week. I have gone to a local optician and got a test and report and sent it to HQ. Now i just have to wait for the Medical questionnaire that was filled out and signed by my GP that got lost in the post.
If dates in Sept/Oct dont suit, what are the dates in October?? and from the comments above if they dont suit i can choose different dates!!!

Hi rookie as far as I am aware the other training dates are November, I am no longer hopeful of making the September group I would imagine there is a good number of people higher up the list so unless the dates in September don't suit them then some of us may get a place.

Cheers, September dates don't really suit me as I was planning on holidays right in the middle of the dates. Once I know there's an intake in November that's grand, hopefully I will get in then.
    Cheers

No worries mate I can't take the November dates because it would be a nightmare trying to get time off close to Christmas in my job.

My advice is apply and forget about it for at least 2 maybe 3 years before getting your medical. I applied over 3 years ago, done my medical last year and training has been cancelled twice on me and no sign of any Movement.

Last post is god advice, although dont get too excited, its not as much fun as you may think, but in saying that it is good life experience, as a thing to do for a while.

2/3 years ? That's crazy , I thought maybe a year at max . The reason I say I'd do it is because I was on the Garda you tube page and a good few recuirts were Garda Reserves and they say if your young which I am ,that the Garda reserve is the way to go, but sure if it takes that long why are they even giving that advice . And have you got training for this year? Like sure the college is open so I don't see why they can't keep reserve training and full time going ,like reserve training isn't that long. Cheers for the reply and advice lads.

2/3 years if your lucky . Don't think there will be any move on the cards this year .
