I bet 99% 2016 will be the new 2013 for every young person here. 2006 will always be my best summer though for years to come - I wasn't alive during the 1995 summer so I can't say whether that's my best or not.

You weren't alive in '95

As some one was alive (and no infant) in 1970 I'll state that '76 and '95 leave any 21st century summer eating dust!

And, yes, 1995 was the best by a big margin...it's what Dec 2010 is to winter months in Dublin.

    Just looking at http://en.tutiempo.net/climate/ireland.html

Kilkenny must be the place that gets over 30C the most in Ireland.

Just going through the records for each year:
    1973 28C
    1974 23C
    1975 30C
    1976 31C
    1977 28C
    1978 25C
    1979 26C
    1980 24C
    1981 26C
    1982 27C
    1983 31.4C
    1984 27.8C
    1985 24.1C
    1986 26.5C
    1987 26C
    1988 24.6C
    1989 29C
    1990 28.2C
    1991 26.6C
    1992 24.8C
    1993 no data
    1994 23C
    1995 30.8C
    1996 26.5C
    1997 25.6C
    1998 24.5C
    1999 27.4C
    2000 26.1C
    2001 26.6C
    2002 24.9C
    2003 29C
    2004 25.5C
    2005 no data
    2006 30.2C
    2007 25.2C

So from 1973 to 2007 excluding the two years with no data, Kilkenny has reached or exceeded 30C in 5 of those years, and exceeded 27C in 13 of these years.
    Average highest summer temperature: 27.6C

Used Kilkenny since it is where I am from :p and it holds the record for highest temperature and it can get hot in summer.
Most of August 1995 was at or not far off 30C.

And, from memory, the ME Station in KK recorded a temperature of 25C or above on every day in August 1995!

Nothing like it ever seen in Ireland before or since....

Those of us who can remember back to 75/76 should be given more votes in this poll, proportional to our extra memory! ;)

Looking at Robert's link I notice that the temperature range in '95 was minus seven (-7C) to plus thirty-one (+31C).

A range of 38 degrees in a single year...is that a record for Ireland?

Doubtful, Christmas Day '11 to Christmas Day '12 (Could be a year or 2 out) had a range of 30+ degrees in some places.

Do you not mean Christmas 2010 to Christmas 2011?

    30+ seems a long way short of 38! :)

We had -18 in December 2010. Chances are any places that recorded that might have had a 20+ day in the summer :)

    -edit-

There were temperatures in the mid 20's recorded for most places towards the end of May 2010 .... so quite likely :)

Yep I recorded 26.7c - my highest for May on record on May 23rd 2010. I remember that day so well. We put up our inflatable water slide to enjoy the sun!

July 1995 wasn't dry always and on the 16th, I had my (2nd now) wettest July day on record with 42.4mm which was over 78% of my monthly total for that month.

It rained for three days in Buncrana that july and then no more rain.

Impossible. All of Ireland recorded between 7-17 wet days during July 1995.

I bet this Summer is already amongst the best in the West...

Summer 2016 is already ranked above 2015 in my estimation despite its only 11 days old.

Summer 2016 is actually 42 days old and into it's 43rd day

    Summer = May, June, July

I'd advise people not to reply to this stirring contribution, as it is not designed for any discussion, just simple trolling.

You obviously have no idea of what trolling is. How was my post either sarcastic or cynical?

    Summer = May, June, July

While traditionally in Ireland May 1st is seen as the first day of Summer, Metorological Summer began on June 1st.
'Meteorologists and climatologists break the seasons down into groupings of three months based on the annual temperature cycle as well as our calendar. We generally think of winter as the coldest time of the year and summer as the warmest time of the year, with spring and fall being the transition seasons, and that is what the meteorological seasons are based on. Meteorological spring includes March, April, and May; meteorological summer includes June, July, and August; meteorological autumn includes September, October, and November; and meteorological winter includes December, January, and February.'
    https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/news/meteorological-versus-astronomical-summer—what’s-difference

So while in a way you're both right, as this is the Weather Forum we tend to stick to the meteorological definition of the seasons

Well I can safely say that I can put 2016 into my longest summers category for days with over 20c, I have seen so many of them this Summer, especially in comparison with 2015 which had less than 20.

Living in Limerick I won't be putting 2016 into this category. It's much better than 2015 but I am not getting many days with temperatures of 20 C or over.

I've just noticed that 1983 isn't included in the poll,
It is up there with the likes of '76, '89 and '95 in my opinion.

This is a bit long but if you skip through it and look at the charts you will see that the good weather lasted from mid June til August.
