Hey Folks ....Long story short .....Our Westie has had a front paw lameness for 2 months +. She has been diagnosed with arthritis. Limb was x-rayed and despite 3 different courses of NSAID's, her condition shows no signs of improving. We're at the point of seeking a second opinion ...and my question is...Will we have to go through the entire diagnosis process again , or will the veterinary surgery's share blood/ x-ray results ?
Any info is appreciated ....she's a much loved pet.

They'll share info or you can request a copy of results etc but it'd probably be easier if you had your vet refer you to a specialist - that way they'll talk to each other without the need for a middle man ie you :)

You could request a sharing of results and tests but the new vet may insist on their own (possible insurance issue using others). I guess if it was dog I'd be weighing up the benefits of fresh tests and a fresh set of eyes reviewng them versus the costs. If you have pet insurance it would also be worth checking whether they'd pay for a second set of tests.

A second set of x-rays would mean having the dog under anaesthetic unnecessarily though which carries a risk? TBH if I went to a second vet and they wanted to do everything again without good reason I'd be going elsewhere. OP just ask your vet for a referral to an ortho specialist? Where are you based?

Many thanks for the replies guys...We've decided to go back to our vet and ask for a referral as was suggested here. Its pitiful looking at her trying to get around, and the fact that she's overweight isn't helping her either .I should have mentioned that she's 10 years old. Considering she's been on anti-inflammatory's over a month now and the shoulder has swollen even more, must indicate that something else is at play ...:(
I appreciate the help ...and I'll keep you updated !
