IRELAND’S BIGGEST VEGETARIAN EVENT – ALL WELCOME!

Ireland’s biggest FREE vegetarian-themed event of 2014 is taking place in Dublin city on Sunday 28 September. It will feature a huge selection of pop up restaurants, cookery demos, talks and shopping. It will also be an opportunity to meet new people and there will be plenty of space for socialising.

Whether you’re a vegetarian, pescetarian, vegan or someone who is thinking about experimenting with meat-free meals there will be something of interest to you at the World Vegetarian Day Festival. The event starts at 11am and runs until 5pm in St Andrew’s Resource Centre on Pearse Street in Dublin 2.

Participating in the event are some of the big names in vegetarian dining including Cornucopia, Delhi O’Deli and Umi Falafel. There will also be activist groups – which include the National Animal Rights Association, Sea Shepherd Ireland, Vegan Ireland and Alliance for Animal Rights. Other delights include vegan bakeries who will not only have vegan cookies and goodies for sale but will also be demonstrating how to make brownies and vegan butter! Also, Nicole Demel will lead a vegan macrobiotic demonstration on behalf of the Dublin Food Co-op. With many people choosing a vegetarian diet for environmental reasons, there is likely to be interest in the Dublin Cycling Campaign stand which will include their cargo bike which they use to transport their wares.

There will also be a number of talks taking place throughout the day. Food historian Frank Armstrong will discuss the environmental impact of animal agriculture and Captain Peter Hammarstedt, Director of Ship Operations for Sea Shepherd Australia, will talk about the Antarctica Whale Defence Campaigns. For further talks please see the programme. The talks will conclude with an interesting panel discussion featuring Michael Nugent from Atheist Ireland and other panelists.

The event is sponsored by the Vegetarian Society of Ireland (VSI). Admission is free but donations will be gratefully received. Of course, the VSI will also have a stand on the day and people are welcome to visit and find out more about going vegetarian.

Also ahd some lovely food from a cooking demonstration, well somebody has got to eat it! And a lovely lemongrass coconut butternut squash, sweet potato and pepper curry from cornucopia.

Some nice animals rights stands and assorted things like coffee, cosmetics, oils, raw vegan courses etc.
Speed dating was starting after I left, yer man was there asking me with his sheets of girls names haha.

Didn't go to any talks though, were they on upstairs? Darted off to eat cheese.

The talks were all upstairs and were well attended and well received. I thought that the positivity and the energy were first rate. I am glad that the day worked for you.
