Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is that a Jesus Christ in a good way or a Jesus Christ ,What the fcuk has happened??

Im not happy. Hope Im wrong but Mata to unlock the defence behind Rooney and one of Falcao or RVP is a much better option then what we are going with in my eyes.

Leicester will not be a push over

Playing RVP Rooney and Falcao can't possibly give you a good balanced team and system

Rooney is nowhere near as good as Mata as a number 10

    Mata :(

Surprised by Mata being dropped. Interesting to see how the front 3 play today and RVP better step up now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,739 ✭✭✭ASOT

RVP should have been dropped, madness to drop Mata.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

Val Gaal looks afraid to drop RVP, not a good sign!

He isn't. Anyone who knows him knows this is not true, its plainly obvious he is willing to leave out RVP

can't watch the match today but keep me posted on how many times Rooney loses possession in tight areas due to his poor first touch

Think he's banking on Di Maria / Rooney to unlock the defense. I'm presuming Rooney is in behind RVP & Falcoa

For a coach as obsessed with balance this just seems wrong

Thats where my issue is, the team is surely served better with Mata playing behind the strikers, sure we will see how it goes. Hopefully we pull it off

    yup

Don't think its the end of the world Mata not playing. Its not as if he has been our best player so far. In fact he was quiet poor for the first half an hour again QPR. I do however think he is a better no 10 than Rooney. Looks like he will play Rooney on right, Falco centre and Rvp on the left. So no real need for a no 10

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,012 ✭✭✭✭Alfred Borden

Cant be dropping Mata imo. United probably win 3-0 now haha

Herrera will have to be a lot more disciplined defensively today to help Blind protect the back 4

I'm not so sure, Rooneys work rate is needed against Leicester, I'm under the assumption he belives this type of game doesn't suit Mata. He could be more effective today as a sub.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,304 ✭✭✭madcabbage

Very harsh on Mata. There's two scenarios here; either LVG doesn't rate him full stop or he's using him as an impact sub. Van Persie in all fairness should be dropped but I suppose both he and Falcao need games.

Could still be playing the diamond with Rooney at the top of it.

IMO we need Evans' experience. A back four of Raf - Blackett - Rojo - Shaw is too youthful.

Generally I'd agree but Evans has been rubbish lately.

No Mata is disappointing but let's just wait and see how this works out. With the attacking threat of Di Maria, I can see Rooney getting a bit more space in the no.10 position.

If it is not working then LVG will bring Mata on for one of the front two and push Rooney back up front.

So play Rooney and drop RVP in that case :)

This type of game is one Mata thrives on, there are not many games he does not thrive on of course, the problem could be trying to get 2 centre forwards into every starting line up alright so the number 10 needs to be more defensively sound then what he believes Mata is maybe

    I take your point though

Aye tough to disagree. I do think though we need a voice at the back, someone to organise

Was kinda predictable, especially for an away game.

Explain this further? Usually teams alter teams to give them more balance in away games not put an extra striker in there.

Like Mick said I would imagine, the increased work rate defensively from Rooney over Mata possibly

Ya thats true and if thats the way weer set up Id prefer Mata in the no 10. But I think Blind and Herrera will sit and Di Maria will be the link

I'd be shocked if it wasn't a diamond midfield.

Jesus this outrage because of Mata is frustrating

Theres no outrage. Its more that the balance of the team is a little off without him and he's done pretty well.

He was much more influential than Rooney or Van Persie last week. He's also a far better creative 10 than Rooney. I think it's more confusion and bemusement than outrage.

Bizarre, he must never have seen him until the last few weeks and even at that he's played some incredible passes in those games.

Would have been delighted if UTD signed him when Keane left.

Always liked Cambiasso, great will to win and great ability. It was him who scored that wonder goal for Argentina in the 2006 World Cup i think? After a 184 pass move if i remember correctly
