    HI
i have a Dell Inspiron laptop , granted its a few years old now(3 or 4) and over the course of time quite a few problems have popped up , as in little things stopped working and stuff like that . Too many to mention at this stage .

Oh yes and now there is a virus which i cannot get rid of (PUP-FNQ)

So i think it is time to back up data and reinstall Windows 7 Home premium which i think is the version i am running .
Problem is it came installed on laptop with NO cd so what do i have to do to reinstall it ??
Any advice , step by step instructions or links to website to guide me thru the process would be appreciated

Thanks in advance for any info offered

If you don't have a recovery partition on your hard drive, then this is the way to go.. Google "Cannot find Digital River download site" its third on the list, its a microsoft website and it gives step by step instructions for the reinstallation of windows. First of all download Malawarebytes and run a scan, then download AdwCleaner and run a scan...these may get the culprit for you and prevent doing a total installation, it may not be a virus, a PUP is a Potentially Unwanted Program that may have been downloaded with some other program that you downloaded. You may have to backup your drivers for sound, video, networking etc before you do a new installation, Google DRIVERMAX.. a free program that backs up all your current drivers before you proceed with your installation... Sometimes Windows will find all the needed drivers by itself but there is a possibility it may not, so its handy to have a copy of them on a USB stick if you need them. Hope this helps. I can't post a link directly to the above website even though I'm not a new user!

plenty of good advice to get you going.

here's a link with a list of the different DVD images of Windows, depending on what version you need.

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/cannot-find-digital-river-download-site/66a8439b-0d16-4b70-92f7-1c8486a46ebf

if you have a 4gb or bigger USB stick (that you don't mind wiping), you can turn it into a bootable windows installer using your downloaded ISO file from the links above.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

also, look for "windows easy transfer" in your current start menu and it will back up everything to another drive or DVD(s) ready for you to wipe and re-install windows.

Also, to save some more time after you've done the OS install, go to www.ninite.com to get a handy 'all in one' silent installer for all your favourite free apps. just tick the ones you want, download the custom installer and let it run.

    See here,

You are best to use a Digital River .iso and the Activation Backup and Recovery Program as instructed in the Windows Reinstallation Guide. This will allow you to create a Windows installation USB and backup the Dell SLP key activation mechanism and reactivate your product without the need to call a Microsoft Product Activation centre. The guide explains the procedure in more detail.

Backup music files, photos, data, mp3, whatever files you think are important.
I downloaded win7 iso from digital river,
installed windows, put in license key from the badge on my pc.
ie you,ll need to register the install online within a week.
Took me about 1 hour to do this.

And once you have media follow the instructions here:

    http://dellwindowsreinstallationguide.com/a-clean-install-of-windows/

You can use drivermax free program, backup all device driver files to a cd,or usb drive,
less than 30 meg file approx.
Drivermax put all drivers in a folder,My documents ,drivers.

The install process formats drive c, the hard drive.
so backup up your files before you do an installation of windows .
