    Hi Guys

Trying to learn a few things about Google adwords. Are you better to have a few specific keys words or a lot?

And any advice on running a campaign as I would say you could run over budget pretty quickly.

    Thanks a million
    CF.

Google's tutorials are pretty good, but just remember they are a little biased in favour of Google's pocket.

If you are trying to sell a product or service, the keywords that you use should be the keywords that a "wants to buy" visitor would use.
Some keywords can generate lots of clicks (money into Google's pocket) but no genuine inquiries or sales.

In some ways similar to the SEO question you asked a few days ago. Do the research into what your existing customers were/are looking for (what search keywords did they use) before they bought and target those.

As a spoiler most visitors do not buy first visit so don't eliminate/discard keywords too quickly.

As general advice make sure you know the value of gaining a new customer (not just their first purchase), providing the ads cost less than this you are in profit. Also keep a record of what you do, what keywords work and when, some are seasonal.

Make sure you Ad copy is very good ie. Title, Description, etc - remember that is what the user will see when they see your ad. The better the Ad copy the more clicks you will receive. The more clicks you get the better score you will receive and therefore you will eventually pay less per click. The trick is to get your Ad score as close to 10 as you can. Also rotate your ad as testing is key - once you know which is your best converting Ad then you increase your budget.

Number of keywords varies depending on the search volume of these keywords.

Add a decent few, then review which ones are performing best and discard those that aren't over time.

The search terms report will give you a list of keywords that triggered your ads so you can see which were the most profitable, and then add them to your campaign.

Also when running a PPC campaign you should create different Squeeze Pages in relation to what keyword your targeting - this will allow you to try build a list of people who are obviously interested in the whatever market/product your targeting, even if they don't purchase from you first time. By having this list (Subscibers) who can then re-target them after - again your getting more value for your PPC budget.
