So McIlroy and Kaymer looks nailed on - good pairing. I suppose I'll have to watch this opening ceremony to get the pairings. Can't wait for it all to start.

really? you took that out of it?

I got todays groupings as mcIlroy Garcia - Bjorn Kaymer

yup, i go with that, the other groups had quite obvious pairings too, so it will be interesting to see who actually gets to play!

McIlroy and Garcia seem like a great pair to play together, they seemed to be paired a lot in regular tournaments this year so should know each other well enough to be as comfortable as possible with one another.

What time is the opening ceremony on?

Its on Sky 1 now, finishing at 5.30pm, so not sure exactly what time it actually starts.

Personally I'd like to see this:

    McIlroy/Sergio
    Lee/Gallacher
    Poulter/Rose
    Kaymer/Stenson

Unlikely though. I'd say he'll stick Rory with Kaymer.

According to a news report I just heard the pairings for tomorrow are released at 4.40PM. The rest is flannel

I actually tried to stick a few quid on Sergio to team up with Rory last week but couldn't find any odds on PP's :(

    This coverage is so cringeworthy.

I wish sky sports would get rid of Coltart & Wayne Riley.

Apologies if discussed earlier, are the pairings out? If not what time?

They'll be released shortly after the opening ceremony I believe.

Wow, Stenson and Rose out first. And Garcia and Rory in the final group of the morning. Gallacher and Poulter should be a good pairing.....if Poulter can get a bit of form. I just can't wait for this.

    So Dooby and Gmac
Westwood and donaldson on in the afternoon

    :)

    Gallagher poulter could be genius

Local man and poulter who feeds off the crowd. There's bound to be a huge following for that match which can only be good things for Poulter

very surprised by Europe's picks. Why split Rose and Poulter? off to the bookies to back America for the Foursomes!

To be fair it's a good point they made on Sky that Gallacher is gonna bring a huge atmosphere with him and who plays better in those circumstances than Poults? Stevie G can bring the crowds and Poults can bring the point

Except for the last pick - you couldn't pick a worse team for europe. Bet looking good. :D

These are the fourball pairings not foursomes.

I'm predicting 2.5 to 1.5 to USA after the morning session.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,340 ✭✭✭PropJoe10

Anyone think McGinley might've missed a trick by keeping Donalson and Dubuisson out of the morning sessions? Its much tougher to play your first Ryder Cup match in foursomes than fourballs, I'd have thought. Maybe we wont see Donaldson and Dubuisson til Saturday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,794 ✭✭✭Trampas

Westwood had to play fourball. He's form can't be trusted in foursomes.

Strange selections but I think USA could win the opening session and pressure could go onto Paul as a result.

I'd might have started Victor out in morning also. I'd have dropped Bjorn but hard to see who else.

    3 - 1 - not inconceivable.

    Eur 3 : 1 USA for me.

I think Eur will win the final two and then 2 halves or a win from the first two.

Rory's obviously happy about it, by the looks of things Watson wanted to birth his new boys hitting every shot, whatever good result goes Europe's way in the morning might go to the US in the afternoon if Paul plays his new lads in foursome...

Some interesting groups and then a humdinger out last. Very excited now.

Re: poulter & Gallagher, I think it could be a masterstroke. Thought came into my head it'd be great to see Gallagher take Europe's first shot. If he nails it, the crowd will be loud!

Ah! That makes allot more sense. Was it always scheduled to be the fourball in the morning session?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,859 ✭✭✭ionadnapokot

    just wikied it:
On the Monday before the competition, European captain Paul McGinley announced that he had chosen to play fourball matches in the mornings, as had been the case for every European home captain since 1997 (while American home captains have chosen to play foursomes first every year except for 2004).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,076 ✭✭✭✭vienne86

Yeah, I'm surprised that Europe will be giving rookies their first taste of Ryder cup in the foresomes. McGinley must have liked the way some partnerships worked in practice. Hard to know really. That last fourball match will be a cracker. Only one sleep to go!

. :D some might say insider information

My prediction is they will play 3 times together over Friday and Saturday ;)

I think Stevie G and Poulter is a genius move..... That's what you want from a captain.... A little twist of imagination and vision
