Question is simple: How the hell does this thing work? And what is the best way to use it?

It looks burnt out to me, i would avoid using it and get it replaced.

Nah it works fine. Its just the timer I have no idea how to use. No idea what happened to the knob.

It is all melted and has burning marks and plastic is warped, it looks hazardous to me anyway.

Been using it for the last 6 months without any hint of an issue. Would just like to know how the timer works :)

I wouldn't turn it on even if it is, as you say, working.

For your own sake have a qualified electrician look at it!
