Eight people, including the truck driver, police and firefighters were injured in the blast which left a giant crater in the highway, about 30 kilometres south of Charleville.

The explosion, which was felt by residents more than 30 kilometres away, also destroyed part of the highway which formed the Angellala Creek bridge connecting Cunnamulla and Charleville.

Have uploaded some pics to youtube that show the devastation.

The truck was carrying ammonia nitrate

Watch in full screen for better detail.

The firemen risked their lives to get the drive away from the truck.
