I find the Cork accent mentally distressing to listen to. I can't watch the Sunday Game because Donal Cusack is on it with that accent. And I'm strongly considering leaving Electric Ireland after ringing their call centre and dealing with someone with a Cork accent so high-pitched it almost ruptured my eardrum.

Downol Oogues accent is alright as cork accents go

Weirdly heroin wasn't much of a problem in cork while it was ravaging Dublin and other parts of the country, but it's seen a big increase there now.
As a Dubliner who lived in Cork city for a couple of years, I'd agree.

One thing that struck me though on the streets of Cork, were the number of down and outs who are 'fond of the drink'. Seemed to be very many of them (relating to the population).

Don't really recall seeing many junkies like you'd see in Dublin, but lots of older men with drink problems.

That event goes to Plymouth and Derry before Cork.

This puts Dublin in the category of non-MTV-crash-event cities like Rio, London and Tokyo.

Ah hahaha hahaha ahahaha ahaha ahahaaa:D

MTV crashes also did events in Manchester and Glasgow which are both more than twice the size of Dublin.

Let's stick to facts and give the bullshit a rest.

MTV comes to Cork and now it's uncool.People were banging a different drum when Belfast hosted some MTV awards thing recently!Im not much of an MTV fan really though tbh.

Aww dubs become begrudgers when they're unsuccessful;)

But then Cork doesn't need MTV or anyone else to be cool.

    IT JUST IS!!

Yeah, remember the time MTV had the Europe music awards in Dublin? They were like pigs in shit. MTV was the best thing ever then. Sour grapes!

I gave up on MTV when it started to move from music to talking/ documentaries .

MTV came to Dublin 15 years ago.

MTV is woeful now. "You're just begrudging" stuff from Cork people is cringe (as is the anti Cork people nonsense when it's serious).

You'd be the same if you dragged you're knuckles when you walked and grunted to communicate. I feel sorry for them but they are bound to evolve one day

So there is no Heroin problem in Cark? I never thought I would hear myself say this but I would take a flat Dublin accent day over the Cark accent any day

OH is not from Ireland, feeling bad about her grasp of the English language one day as she couldn't understand a word a Cork person was saying.

She felt much better about herself when I explained even Irish people have this problem. :D

As a Donegal man living in Cork who has also lived in Dublin for 4 years, i can confirm both of you are a bunch of nerds.

Also this thing was in Derry a couple of weeks ago, Cork needs to get back in its box:p

Cork and MTV - neither have been relevant since the mid-90s.

What an articulate insightful and intelligent post. Im most of those Cork people you are berating are above abusing people on the internet. So i guess that post say's more about the calibre of individual you are than it does about Cork and it's people.;)

They came to Cork in 1997 for the MTV Dancefloor Chart show from Sir Henry's. That's 17 years ago. Bit of a dumb post to make SS.

MTV haven't been even remotely relevant since about 2001/02. Who gives a flying f***?

Yes it's dumb to say MTV came to Dublin in 1999, which is 15 years ago.

    Of course.

    Dublin is a kip.

Cork is less of a kip and has a nice countryside.
