Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Opened the lid of our meter today to check the readings as per another thread.
Found the duct filled with water as far as a drain hole just below the lid.
Could not even see the meter let alone check the reading.
    The irony ..

Could be leaking on your side and running along the pipe to the meter pit.

I learnt long ago that you don't go digging for leaky water pipes where you see water coming out without some further investigation first. Obviously could be the meter or the joints with it but I won't assume the obvious.

Bail the water out and see if you can see where fresh water is coming in from.

I would suggest mixing about 40kg of cold-set custard powder to the water.

Mix a bucket of concrete and pour it into the hole .............should fix it

For some strange reason this thread reminded me of this old children's song,

There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza,
There's a hole in the bucket, dear Liza, a hole.

Then mend it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Then mend it, dear Henry, dear Henry, mend it.

With what shall I mend it, dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I mend it, dear Liza, with what?

With a straw, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
With a straw, dear Henry, dear Henry, with a straw.

The straw is too long, dear Liza, dear Liza,
The straw is too long, dear Liza, too long,

Then cut it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Then cut it, dear Henry, dear Henry, cut it.

With what shall I cut it, dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I cut it, dear Liza, with what?

With a knife, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
With a knife, dear Henry, dear Henry, with an knife.

The knife is too dull, dear Liza, dear Liza,
The knife is too dull, dear Liza, too dull.

Then sharpen it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry
Then sharpen it, dear Henry, dear Henry, sharpen it.

On what shall I sharpen it, dear Liza, dear Liza?
On what shall I sharpen it, dear Liza, on what?

On a stone, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
On a stone, dear Henry, dear Henry, a stone.

The stone is too dry, dear Liza, dear Liza,
The stone is too dry, dear Liza, too dry.

Well wet it, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Well wet it, dear Henry, dear Henry, wet it.

With what shall I wet it, dear Liza, dear Liza?
With what shall I wet it, dear Liza, with what?

Try water, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Try water, dear Henry, dear Henry, water.

In what shall I fetch it, dear Liza, dear Liza?
In what shall I fetch it, dear Liza, in what?

In a bucket, dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
In a bucket, dear Henry, dear Henry, a bucket.

There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, dear Liza,
There's a hole in my bucket, dear Liza, a hole.

Use your head, then! dear Henry, dear Henry, dear Henry,
Use your head, then! dear Henry, dear Henry, use your head!

What's ironic about your meter leaking and water meters measuring how much water you use?

    Really?

You regularly checked for water leaks before the meter was installed?

Thanks, but I think I will let them figure it out. After all they would not tell me where the leak was if it was on my side of the meter.

The leak may well be on your side of the meter and they will repair all leaks free of charge for the first six months if they are on your side. Ignore this and you may well end up paying for that water.

Hire out a mini digger in the morning, really easy to drive put the blade and the track motors to the back of the machine and just easy joysticks then, break up the path and fix the leak.

You have a water leak but instead of telling IW, you choose to give out about it on social media.

They have announced the "free fix period" in newspapers and on radio for the past month or so. But look, just let it run away as you say it's not on your side anyway - we'll see when the bill comes in.

Will they fix a faulty ball cock in the attic?

Thanks, that won't be necessary, if you can just back up your claim with a link to relevant section of IW website?
    That would be fine.

Can one purchase an extended cover when the 6 months lapse as hiring diggers to fix leaks will get expensive.

This is probably the stupidest thing you could do. You'll risk accumulating extra charges due to your stubbornness. If it's leaking on your property, then it's your problem. If it's leaking on the footpath outside your house, then it's their problem.

The one outside my house was leaking, I knew it's wasn't rainwater because it was leaking during the heatwave during the Summer when it hadn't rained for over a week. We rang Irish Water and they came out the replace a ring or something.

Now, it is fixed. It's as simple as that.

Got my application pack today. Addressed to my mother (deceased for a year now). Using key phrases, I feel "deeply traumatised" by this "callous bureaucracy" and will be seeking compensation. Cash only - I don't do bouncy cheques.

When you ring them, don't mention the leak. Just tell them that the meter is running backwards and that according to the current readings, they owe you €450.

    They'll be out within hours.

Rang IW this morning, they cant send anybody out because I declined to have my data shared with 3rd parties. Girl couldnt say who these parties were and which details would be shared.
Anyway they know there is a leak at the meter outside my house but cant log a call because I declined to share all my details with 3rd parties.
