Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi there,

I'm looking for an inset stove, I broke out the fireback tonight and the distance between the concrete blocks is 18" whereas the internal width in the fireback was 16".

Does this mean that I have a 16 or 18 fireplace??

If it is an 18" fireplace does any company actually make an 18" inset stove?? Most of them are listed as suitable for both so basically it's a 16 shoved into the gap for an 18. Would like to get an 18 if possible as the firebox would be bigger.

Also what colour stove would be best in a white marble fireplace, if black would matt or enamel be better?

    Thanks folks,

    JP

    Hi JP,
When a stove states suitable for both 16/18" openings that really means the frame of the insert stove will seal against both a 16 and 18" opening as the frame is 2" plus.
The firebox generally is slightly smaller than 16" on most brands.
What size of a room are you trying to heat?

Colour of stoves is really a personal taste.
IMO enamel looks better and is easier keep clean but.... If you chip it it's chipped forever and is also a bit more expensive.
