Subaru. exhaust valve

My son has a 2010 diesel subaru legacy. It broke down 3 weeks ago. It turns out the problem was a failed exhaust inlet valve. He has just got it back, and the garage gave him the valve which failed. They suggested he get the valve tested in case it was faulty. Does anyone know where or how you might see about getting this…
