What can I grow?

I've just moved into a new house, with a stone-filled garden out front and a smaller stone-filled garden out back. Both get a decent amount of light - there's also a small kitchen which also gets a fair bit of light.

I'd love to start growing my own fruit/veg - it's coming into winter soon so this'd all be for next year. I know nothing about gardening though - can anyone point me in a direction where I could figure out how or what to grow? Or even any ideas/general pointers for me?

A good way of getting started is to get a cheap gardening magazine all kinds of useful info and seeds too. Also you are in time for garlic and onion planting now for next year depending on your preferences.

    Good luck

    Hello Finnhuck

Good to hear your garden gets a lot of light.

How is the soil? This is the next most important factor

If your soil is poor, or by stone filled you mean 6inches of stone then you would ed to go for raised beds.

Some good & easy vegetables to try in your first year:
    Carrots
    Onions (sets are easy)
    Pumpkins
    Courgettes
    Garlic (plant in Novemeber)
    Peas (Plant in October)

Fruits: (best planted in isolated beds - allow space for them to spread)
    Raspberries (plant in November)
    Gooseberries (Plant in November)
