Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If liverpool have any hope of being a team at the business end of the league they should win with a bit to spare

At home yes but a draw away to a seasoned enough champions league team isn't a bad result.

That's not how football works. Away champions league matches against decent sides (which Basel are ) are always difficult
Difficult yes and basel are a decent side ( assume) but a team like pool SHOULD have enough and a bit for them , one off games are always tricky though

A draw from a qualification point of view would be sufficient, not only are you taking a point you are denying the other team 2 additional points.

It's all about the home games and pinching points away from home.

Liverpool's aim, given their absence should be qualifying for the quarters, even that is a big ask.

  • Going for a home win - Basel still a decent price @ 13/5

woah that is not the team I expected. :(

    Markowicz? Odd choice for me.

Maybe he wont be involved at the weekend.

You have been watching Liverpool recently I take it... and know that Basel have pulled off quite a few big results in the CL over the years.

Not a should win (on recent form) at all...

Lallana on the fucking bench and Lazar starting?

You've lost it Brendan, both the match and your mind.

Maybe the plan is to run at Basel for 70 mins and then bring on Lallana to press them high up

I imagine the thinking is that Marko wont play at the weekend and Lallana will. Still, odd.

I'd rest Gerrard tonight and play Lucas. If Gerrard has to play both games we will get an a pig of a performance from him at the weekend.

    Not convinced.

See I would understood that logic if it was Gerrard on the bench with Lallana playing.

Use our high engry high tempo players to run them hard for 70 minutes then bring on Gerrard in the number 10 role.

Just quoting to aid other folks who perhaps haven't seen the line up.

Back 4 more or less as expected.

    Gerrard as expected.

Coutinho & Markovic a bit of a surprise.

Coutinho not at his best unless Sturridge is doing his thing with Sterling.

With Can & Allen out though it's not too bad a team.

Can see Balo' netting tonight :)

Richie taking the Basel team because the other two haven't a clue about football outside of England. Barca & Madrid.

Markovic to have a good night and Countihno to show his preseason for and Liverpool to win and me to find a tenner in my coat I haven't worn in a while.

Oh black tie black shirt combo, say one thing for Rodgers say he's fashionable.

Basel are confident going in to this one and with good reason. They're topping the league so far this year without ever getting going, even with a resurgent FCZ.

    2-0 Basel

Basel got tonked by Real Madrid in the first game. If Liverpool are anything worth talking about they should win here despite the noticeable talking up of Basel going on in this thread. Let's be seeing it

Liverpool are not in the same league as Madrid so your theory fails here
