Has anyone got their hands on one yet?

It would appear that wiggle have started to deliver some of there's in the uk and that the 17% discount does work !!

Interesting as there is none shown in stock and according to Garmin only one retailer in the UK will have an exclusive deal or stock for the first 60 days after launch. For those pre-ordering I hope you've picked the correct retailer (I've no idea who is getting the exclusive there.)

Launch in UK and Ireland is ETA 1st week of November which is exactly the same availability as US. Aparently there will be no difference between the territories on availability.

I have been doing some research and think I might end up buy a forerunner 620 instead... as somebody that never used the 910xt for swimming I don't see the benefit.

The activity tracker is a nice feature but I do not know if I would use it daily.

But my question was still not answered:
Should I have a problem with device while in Ireland would Garmin Ireland/UK honour my warranty or would I be required to send it back to the USA to have it repaired?
    Thanks

    My specific question was:

If I pre order by 920 now in the USA now, then return home to Ireland in June 2015 (as planned) would Garmin in Ireland/UK honour my warrenty should a defect occur within the 12months warrenty period?

Assuming I register it online etc.

    Thanks

I got kind of same response back from them and just like you took forever for them to actually answer what I was asking. Their support is shocking. They say they will respond within 3 business days and a week later they respond saying how can we help or what's the problem with the watch and take a week to respond again with the wrong answer. End of rant!

    I also looked into this.

AFAIK you are right, but devil is in the detail. Garmin UK will honour the global warranty. You ship the unit at your expense to them, they fix it (note fix or refurb but not replace with new) and then they ship it back at your expense.

Local purchased units will be swapped out for new units at point of sale. This will be done for 12 months after purchase.

In the end after my 10th 910xt I bought local, not for the cost of postage but for the OTC immediate swap outs.

As a matter of interest were you finding the same recurring issues with the 910 or were they unique issues each time? 9 changes in a couple of years sounds bananas - was there known problems with this model all along?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,304 ✭✭✭viperlogic

Looks like we will be waiting until December now. Many posts on Garmin forums saying general release has been delayed due to a defect found. One post says due to water proofing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,304 ✭✭✭viperlogic

Saw one in the flesh at the weekend at the Garmin stand at the Amsterdam Marathon Expo. Not a massive fan of the design, looks a bit "cheap" and reminds me of an old casio watch! But in saying that, I'm still going to get one thou may be December now before its released.

Huge known issues, anything below a certain serial number was hosed for a number of reasons.

1 Fogging - happened on 10 of mine until I went bricks and mortar and insisted on a number over a certain amount. It was not going from warm to cold as they called but intense sunlight on a cool day

2 Power meter connectivity - 910xt is not great at this in general, some are shocking. Its a known issue with the 910xt

3 probably some other issues two but usually it was the screen became unreadable and stayed that way for long periods. and yes, your 910xt probably does it too (if the number is under a certain number) if you know the time and place where the sun will be at the right angle on a day like today. (my lunch runs and the times I'd go :) ) Otherwise they

This is my present watch. Nothing wrong with old casios. Also not convinced on the accuracy of the Garmin forums, its all randomers who have may been told excuses by their local stores who haven't their pre orders sorted

This is what Rainmaker got back from Garmin when asked about the production delay....

"""We have not recalled any 920s but are being cautious during the ramp-up phase. A couple beta testers reported running into waterproofing issues after the first round of production units went out so we are adjusting hardware before shipping any more product as a precaution."""

Think it's a case of if you have already ordered or looking to order hence different dates.

Yup. That's what they were saying Wednesday. Different story Thursday. On Tritalk.

I asked the distributors about this yesterday and they have heard nothing about delays. They are to check with Garmin last evening so hopefully a solid update some stage this morning.

    Latest from wiggle ....

Garmin have contacted us today to inform us of a manufacturing delay, this will mean that the watches will not be with us at Wiggle until late next week (week commencing 10/11/2014)

"asked about that this morning. Not actually true. Production resumed, and shipments have gone out. For example, folks at a triathlon in Australia this weekend could pickup units.

It sounds like units might start floating out to retailers within the next week, we'll see. Obviously, the halting of production to address a waterproofing issue that came up slowed things."

    Dcrainmaker. Delays all round.
