How could anybody defend this guy after the way he treated the listeners who made him what he is.
I find it unbelievable that he just quite literally walked out without so much as a thank you to those very people-listeners and colleagues without whom he wouldn't be earning the obvious obscene salary that he is going to be paid.

It has been stated several times on the thread that this would have been completely out of his control and the station heads would have pulled the plug on him straight away once they were made aware of his intention to leave to join a competitor. But sure don't let that get in the way of a good rant!

I don't whinge...I'm merely making an observation about an individual who appears to set himself up as an expert on everything who in reality hasn't a clue and certainly without the myriad of producers and researchers he surrounds himself with would sink without a trace.

Ah the ol' "forced to listen to it at work" excuse.

This is reality though in quite a few workplaces. D'Arcy's show used to be quite easy listening and he built up a very large fan base, quite a few of them grew old with him (or possibly partly because of him) and it was the radio show of choice in offices and retail outlets etc throughout the country, it was for me for a few years anyway.
He is an infuriating man in many ways and while there was still some entertainment from time to time and some good interviewees (rather than interviews) it is a lot easier to criticise him on an internet forum than it is to praise him, there was little positive to speak of in recent years. You'll find that forums tend to dwell on the negative anyway, don't take it personally. Why don't you tell us what you loved about it and start a discussion rather than the usual rubbish.
You say Ray was himself on the radio, thing is many of us didn't like that person.

I've already posted why I liked it, I don't need to continuously post the same thing over andover again like the whingers who complain about him.

He was himself, had interesting segments and was funny. He covered a large variety of topics and I felt it wasn't an act. Listen to Tubridy/Dempsey and they're so fake. Thing with other radio presenters they either don't give their own opinion or else give the opinion that will please most. D'arcy gave his own opinion.

So he finished the show at 12 o'clock and went to the bosses and said I'm leaving?
    Now that's just ridiculous.
If even if he was told not to say anything its obvious that he has a friend in the Indo so could he not have at the very least said a thank you via a press release?
After all it just called common courtesy.
I just don't understand why people feel the need to defend behaviour such as this or codone the way he used to act when he was on that show.

Because the radio is tuned in to Today FM and I have no control over that.
    Is that ok?

    No...everyone despised the programme.
Only one person liked it and that was the person who pays the wages.

Your saying that ray was radio presenter for the people? Well that's exactly what he was thinking himself
You claim tubs and Ian are fake? Jesus you know 3 of the biggest radio presenters in the country personally. Impressive
They might be fake, I don't know but at least they know what there target audience is and have conversations about what the listeners what to hear rather than ray who was booming out over the airwaves what he wanted himself and force on the listeners

Saying what the people want to hear is like saying Ireland are the best soccer team in the world. Pointless even listening to is.

    What? ?

Darcy is the most populist presenter out there, consistently jumping on the band wagon de jour.

    Tut tut sigh

Why is a statement that poster was forced to listen to it in work getting so much attention. Same was the case with me. It's hardly that shocking.
Today fm in general is a crowd pleaser, so in my workplace is left on all day. Ray had been gradually grating on us all more and more though and I think it was only a matter of time before he would have forced a changeover for our sanity.

When his show started on Today fm it was excellent, for a good few years I loved it and it got me through the working morning, it then started to get a bit stale and when he became a father the show went downhill big time,(in my opinion) with his constant talk of his kids, not everybody wants to listen to someone constantly going on and on about kids, I think the last year to 18 months he knew he was moving on as he seemed to have no interest in freshing up his show.. hopefully the new presenter and show can get back to being a good entertaining show...

He will do fine all the questions will be printed on cards by a research team. He no longer has to use his head.

Phil's what's the year is very stale now with Google. Time was very few could guess right but now, every answer is accompanied with a fact like, my baby was born that day or we were on holidays in cork when that was no. 1.

Alison was doing it today, website still had Phil's picture up from the weekend though. They probably hadn't it updated until later on. Not sure where the PJ rumour came from.

Surely not Phil Cawley for a 3 hour morning slot:eek:

Like you said it will be motorbikes and cars and cheesy music.

He was removed from the weekday schedule 7 or 8 years ago when Ray Foley got the day time slot. If this is true it is most definitely a case of Be Careful What you Wish for!!!

The papers were reporting last week that he is going to have a Saturday Night Takeaway style entrtainment show.

I cannot say that I am surprised at this bit of news.

Has Will been heard on the radio since the Sunday that Ray quit?
I don't remember hearing him at all.

Jenny did well to get the big goodbye and now escaping from the kids again. :)
