Good god did they realise they were on air? Not funny at all. Sounded like carl Spain putting on a woman's voice. Who is she!

I was growing to like Alison, and I like Neil Delamere also (I'm a glass half-full kind of guy :p) but I do think Neil might needsomeone with him. He's better than you'd expect doing all the links and hitting his marks, but he's naturally a funny guy when he's looking for the joke and it's being curbed by having to do all the nuts and bolts of the show. When he was filling in for Dave Moore before Christmas he was much more lively as he had Dermot to bounce off and didn't have to worry about scripted promos and ad breaks.

Fwiw I'd love to see Ray Foley and JP get it, and reunite them with Ann, but I'd be pretty sure it won't happen. And even if it did, Ann and Louise Duffy are great together imo and you'd weaken Louise's show by taking Ann.

Ann Gleeson is a dinger. Rescued Louise Duffys show in the afternoon I reckon. Bounces off everyone really well. Was so good with Foley and JP as well.

Loiuse wouldn't have a show without Ann helping Louise to pronounce the big words

Louise doesn't have a show. Isn't she just filling in for Tony Fenton after being moved again to make way for Dermot & Dave.

I've seen Jenny on Twitter appealing for people who emigrated and Will looking for adult triplets to get in touch to be on a panel for the show. Sounds like they're going in a really exciting new direction with the new show.

Both of their families exploit RTÉ's nepotism policy pretty well. What odds would you get on Kate D'Arcy getting a gig on RTÉ in the next 15 years? Mommy and Daddy are "in" now so it would only be a matter of asking?

I was a D'Arcy fan for years and I defended him here many many times. The truth is though he is a hypocrite. Taking €500000 off RTÉ and getting his wife in while RTÉ claim they can't afford to keep LW open so people in Britain etc can listen to the news back home. Disgusting money, far better talent in Ireland deserves a shot.

As if anyone else in this thread wouldn't do the same. I know I would. It's RTEs problem.

    Ann is annoying as hell.

Duffy has the sexiest voice on radio.

The 9to 12 shows isn't rays show anymore so why would they worry about what he thinks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,781 ✭✭✭clappyhappy

Neil just said that they have an announcement to make after the 11am news. I wonder if they are announcing the new presenter of the show?

I love when Anton had to fill in for Ray he was great. Delighted he got the job. Good informed interviewer and is up for a laugh too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,475 ✭✭✭Chip Whitley

He said there would be one or two additions to the show staff on top of Pam / Siobhan / Niamh... I'd laugh if Mairead Farrell came back. They always had a bit of craic together. If she did then it would all but confirm a falling-out with D'Arcy and Co. considering how she left and he barely mentioned it.

Someone needs to change this on tune in app. I don't need to see his mug anymore!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,781 ✭✭✭clappyhappy

A nice few digs there at Ray :)

Anton will be great, has a very good knowledge of most things, let's people speak, can be both serious and funny. Don't think he will be doing too many blind date segments (thankfully).

Id say they had to pay him a fairly large salary to get him.

Best of luck to him, looking forward to the new show.

    WooHoo.

    Great news.

Will we have a Creedence Clearwater Revival spot on every show?

    No date confirmed yet?

I'd take a cheeky punt on the 2nd of February. Ray's first day with RTE.

I hope everyone gives him a chance when he starts. It must be daunting for him. I'm sure it'll take him a while to find his feet. Delighted though, best man for the job. A breath of fresh air after Grumpy Grandad D'Arcy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 796 ✭✭✭Johnnio13

Now he just has to figure out the buttons on the desk and how the odd one out quiz works.

Long time lurker on this thread, but, effing brill. Always found him very entertaining. He'll need a kinda whackyish(word?) sidekick to play off his more anal qualities; Mairead would be a good foil.

Thinking about it, Anton ticks all the boxes.
    - Has a name in Radio
    - Good Interviewer
    - Knowledgable across a range of topics
    - Good sense of humour and not afraid to laugh at himself
    - Can retain a good portion of D'Arcy listeners

As was mentioned, the problem was all the other work in his life, but they must be paying him well alright. So now a new presenter for 'Savage Sunday' is needed.

The Anton Savage Show. Zero effort is put into naming shows anymore! :D

Will this thread close on Feb 2nd or just keep going and be related to his Radio 1 show? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,452 ✭✭✭ads20101

Still think that Sean Moncrieff would've been the ideal host IMHO but Anton will be great also.

    Best of Luck Anton

I think Anton is a great choice. I've heard him speak on covering for Ray in the past and it was clear that it wasn't really the kind of show he liked with segments on biscuit tasting or racing Mairead in high heels, so I think there will be a tonal shift but with significantly less heavy sighing. And there's also the issue of him wanting to make it his own so it will be interesting to see how many of old segments they'll keep, Dr Mary, Email bag, agony aunt. For the last few weeks, from what I've heard, it has very much been the D'arcy show without Ray, same as it would be if he was on holiday except without Will. I'm sure they have some new ideas for Anton's show in order to shake it up a bit because the 9-12 Today FM really does need some shaking up

Ok, great news about Anton. For the sake of not fooking with the hamsters too much, I'm just going to close this thread.

I won't start an Anton Savage show thread yet, there's a thread about him getting the slot here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057362216

I wouldn't call it great news.

Anyway Ray Darcy followers can start a new thread when his new show begins next month on February 3.
