It's only really like Lost in that so far it's throwing more questions at you than giving you answers. They'll all be answered by the end of the series. Lost became a nightmare because they didn't actually have an ending planned by the time they started making it.

I'm actually enjoying the plodding speed that it's going at. I think it suits the setting and gives a greater feeling of how the inhabitants have been slowly losing their marbles by living up there. That said, I haven't seen this weeks episode, so that opinion may change to frustration depending on how it goes. :D

Anyone else finding the whole 'feeder' thing with the Doctors daughter & her boyfriend/partner a little disturbing? I'd noticed it from previous episodes how he commented every time she ate but the hand feeding in last nights episode was well creepy IMO.
Maybe its just to highlight the fragile mental state of the inhabitants but they all seem a tad 'fooked up' for want of a better description.

Enjoying it so far but was surprised last nights episode was only the fourth, it feels like I've been watching this for months.

Yep the feeder scene for me was the most disturbing scene so far, very very messed up would be very surprised if it ends well for your one.

I think its been very good so far, loads of questions and it will be defined by how well these questions are answered. The best thing about it is the various supposed unrelated storylines which are fairly intricate and require a fair bit of attention unlike most TV dramas.

One thing that is annoying is the Dan character some of the stuff he does is so reactionary and stupid you would swear it was his first day on the job, its not believable that he is the head cop.

Right, things are speeding up a lot now in fairness. Still we have no idea who did it which is always a good plot in these shows.

Wonder who or what the guy in the tent with his daughter fought with.

What did he do with what ever he killed?
I am thinking it was the child that killed your man under some weird sh1te that's going on with the dead yoke in the shed

I think she also said she was a solicitor, didn't she? Did she offer to represent one of the men being questioned? Badger boy??

No. I've persevered but it's absolutely rubbish.

Havent watched last nights episode yet...
Seems to be whatever disease the mammoth had in it, that was preserved over the years, is finally being unleashed on those that come in contact with it.
    Making them do crazy things!
I'm hoping for a few more answers as we go along. There's only so much any audience can take of unresolved questions!! They have to give us a few titbits to keep us coming back for more!! :P

Yes was thinking that about the mammoth vapour too. I actually thought Stanley tuccis character was beginning to lose it with all that vomiting and then tripping up the carpet.
Wonder what the teachers role in all this is? Did he have anything to do with the murder? He seems a bit meat obsessed?

The teacher likes to keep the wife well fed anyway.

If fatty got sick from being in the shed with the mammoth or what ever it is how come the fella with the young girl on the run are not sick?
Is the teacher making fatty sick so he can hack away at her.
There was def some one else in the room with the young child after he hit him over the head with chopping board.

I'm the opposite. Thought it had (literally) lost the plot. Now that the killer is (supposedly) revealed, I have no interest in the other plot threads and if it turns into people madly murdering each other in the streets, i'll turn off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,749 ✭✭✭Flippyfloppy

I like it. And I can't believe I didn't pick up that the kid was involved in the murder. I assumed the blood on the t shirt was from the couple! Must rematch episode 1.

What's the girls name again (Liam's friend)? I have a suspicion that she was responsible for the blood outside the tent.

I also think think that Elena is Sheriff Dan's daughter.

Wasn't sheriff Dan in the house already when badger boy found the body? How did that come about?

Interesting that Elena might be his daughter. That would explain his interest/concerns for her. I was thinking that the old man artist was his father?

Yeah Dan was in the house, I think Dan or the Russian killed Charlie and when the kid turned up Dan used it as his opportunity to frame him. Probably shoved the kids hand into Charlie, then carried him back to his house and put a blood stained pj top behind the bed. Liam wasn't wearing a top but yet there is one covered in blood behind the bed that Dan found. Dan is probably working with the Russian......maybe they were all there looking for the scan......

Elena called him a bad sheriff last night, and I think it's because he forced to be part of the plan in getting Frank out of the house. I just can't marry those two ideas together though.......hmmm

I just thought of something last night too with Rodneys hand in bits, remember the shop guy that got beaten up when he was looking for the boat, he said he grabbed the blade of the knife so that's why his hand is fooked. Not necessarily the maggoty mammoth disease.

    Ahhhh my head....jesus!! I'm loving it :D:D:D:D:D

I was confused too about the blood stained short behind the bed but then they were holding what I think was that shirt up to the dead body in that recent episode?
Was that not the sheet they found behind bed?
Wonder if Elena has something to do with pettigrew death so sheriff has something on her?
Also I think that sheriff Dan and the governor are having a fling..

The mammoth/kid angle is totally unnecessary, unless there is some huge payoff at the end it's total horse poo. The show is not nearly clever enough or presented in a way that is ever going to have a believable conclusion to that part. Hope I'm wrong.

I'm enjoying the other elements to it though, quite a lot I have to say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,438 ✭✭✭livinginkorea

The mammoth must have some disease or something that will start effecting people in the town. If the teacher gets sick soon then that must be from the wife who got it from the animal.

There is also some hint as like shaman or possession or something in regards to the kid. Did he do it on his own accord. I thought he looked rather like being controlled when he was walking out in the snow.

It is picking up the level of strangeness which makes it even more interesting. I think Stanley Tucci has something to hide as well...I just don't trust a cop who keeps smiling at everyone when asking serious questions.

I say the mammoth is infecting people who come into contact with it.

But what about the Irish fella who helped move it to the shed? He seems fine.

Watched the first episode and thought it was utter toilet, seems to me its trying to be Fargo without the excellent script and acting (Gambon aside).

    Think I'm done with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,385 ✭✭✭Nerdlingr

    Watched last weeks episode...
Did Pettigrew had an ultrasound or whatever of the mammoth in his folder? I cant remember what exactly it was that the Russian took. Sort of an acetate of a thermal image of the ice?
So we're lead to believe that the Sheriff(or the Russian!) needs this folder, he goes to pettigrews room, gets walked in on, knocks Pettigrew out/attacks him in his room. (Thus making Elena scared of him). Brings him to the waters edge to make it look like a bear kill. Waits in his car for a bear to arrive, goes to shoot him but Gambon gets there first, f*cking up his plan. (Is this why he cant tell Gambon why he was there in the first place?)
Also Liam's shirt being found under the bed in highly suspicious now. Also there was a shot of Frank standing at the door watching liam after he put him back to bed where his shirt diodnt seem to have any bit of blood on it at all!!!
Anyway, I could go on and on so I'd better stop!!
Delighted we got a few answers this week. Gotta love creepy kids..they make everything so much more eerier !

How did they come to the conclusion that Liam had seen Stoddard being murdered or was there when it happened? (end of ep4)

Because his pyjamas, that were found under his bed by the sheriff, was caked in Stoddard's blood.

I think it's good and I'm a right cynical c**t when it comes to these shows. By the way it's absolutely nothing like Fargo whoever made that daft comparison a few posts back...aside from the cold weather and the actors have pubic hair I can't see a similarity.

what was the story with the nerdy scientist fella snorting a load of coke before watching an episode of laurel and hardy or whatever black and white shįte he was watching, is it just trying to throw a bit of weirdness in, like that feeder fella with that fat yoke or does it have any relevance?

That wasnt Laurel and Hardy, that was 'Harvey'. A film that stars James Stewart. Its about a giant imaginery rabbit only he can see. The rabbit is described in the film as a púca...or a mischevious spirit that causes trouble.
Interesting that they pick this film, as we seem to be getting into this type of territory with the introduction of the shaman and the feeling that Liam wasnt alone in the room when he killed Stoddard.

So, this show kinda lost me as a viewer last night. Up until now, it's been a fairly straight shooting Whodunnit with none of this supernatural crap. Last night though, turns out a sick child who's been our in the snow more or less naked for a good while has the strength to knock out a coke up fully grown man with a fairly flimsy chopping board. Then sticks his hand (or someone else sticks his hand) inside the mans body. On top of that, we have Gambon's character going to employ a shaman to protect the family from evil spirits. Finishing off the whole thing, we have a sickness inducing dead mammoth carcass that contains something that can apparently make people go bat**** crazy. That or the kids just nuts as is.

Nah. I was really enjoying it up until now, cast were excellent and the story was also motoring along nicely. Now it's threatening to go really off the rails. I hope it doesn't.

Well then you haven't been paying close attention, the "supernatural crap" has been implicit from the very beginning.

They've had "mysterious" shots of the mammoth corpse, and some semi-squelchy atmospheric background noise.

    What else did I miss?
