Pilau rice? just a colour?

I tried to get my Basmati looking like "Indian" rice by putting half teaspoon of turmeric into the saucepan during cooking but it just comes out pale yellow almost orange, what am I doing wrong? There's hardly yellow rice out there that I haven't seen??? TIA
