    Hi.
I currently buy and sell cars and registered as a sole trader.
Things are not working out and money is not really being made.
I have a irish vat number and company registration number.
I will be handing back my vat number soon but what I want to know is will I still have to keep all my files and vat receipts for money claimed back as my business will be dissolved and my vat number non existent anymore?
    Thanks
    David

A SOLE TRADER IS NOT A COMPANY. You can cease trading, relinquish your VAT and TAN registrations, but as a sole trader you cannot "disolve" without filing for personal bankruptcy! You need to keep your records for 6 years, but this can be reduced with specific Revenue approval.
