Fellaini would have caused some serious damage to himself if he had to stoop down and head butt Wilshere :)

Should fellaini have gone down after the headbutt?

Would have helped if he had. Would have left Dean with no choice but to get rid of Wilshire.

That's two games where a ref has bottled a headbutt decision.

Also, lads, I'm removing the gifs on the back of the charter and copyright stuff, etc etc...

Karma hit the little **** anyway so it's not like he got away with the headbutt.

Fellaini capping of a fine return to form...now to keep motoring on. He was sublime today...you can see this boost in confidence and is becoming a real asset. Absolutely chuffed for him.

While I thought the ref absolutely bottled it not sending Wilshire off for a clear red card offence..Fellaini not budging and his reaction to the ref was brilliant.

We've long been calling out for some teeth in that midfield and he's starting to show his.

DDG again superb. LVG wasn't too happy with him over something in the presser but he was so solid again.

Four points from Arsenal,Cheslea and City. That's a good return. Pity about the laboured start to the season but what's done is done.

We are sitting 4th with a pretty ravaged defence...once things get solidified? I'm a really really hopeful United fsn this evening.

Nice pass to Di Maria from Fellaini to set up the break away. Its a pity van Persie wasn't always as aware of Di Maria and his runs on the break.

Did not see game, but three diff lads text and said how poor Van Persie was,how long can an injury decimated team go on carrying a totally out of form player??...Wilson well worthy of a start the next day.

With ddg I'm guessing he was annoyed with a few of his clear outs that were poor and gave arsenal an attacking run but you could put it down to defence putting pressure on him

Really like McNair as a defender, doesn't have size but reads things very well, he is doing really well so far.

His grounding as a central midfielder is standing to him too, very comfortable on the ball which would help him settle into a style Van Gaal would like

Damn unfortunate for Shaw, he was really starting to show what he could do after a slow start this season. Hope his injury isn't too bad.

Not pretty but a win is a win. Happy enough.

"If Arsenal had scored in the first 20 minutes, Van Gaal said after the game, "I would have to answer all of your questions about picking three defenders. Now I can laugh."

Haha he's nuts isn't he!?! Brilliant.

Super win, absolutely delighted with that.

    Smalling was excellent i thought.

Big fan of his, but thought he was exposed badly at times today. He lacks the pace of Smalling thats for sure.

Still tho, he hasnt let us down since he signed and has been pretty good all things considered and he can only get better! Wed have been f*cked without him.

Blackett gave some Hospital balls back to DdG today. He really didn't look assured there at all imo.

We were lucky De Gea got the ok to play, that was too much footwork to ask of any goalkeeper today.

Great result. Took years off my life!

As for the headbutt, it's just another example on the pile of evidence that players go down softly because refs won't do their job otherwise.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,292 ✭✭✭Adamocovic

Great result for us, once again De Gea showing his class. The defence had to deal with a lot of pressure today but did well and came so close to the clean sheet.

The international break might have helped us a bit in terms of returning players and preparation, looking forward to us hopefully going on a run now. To come away with 4 points from Chelsea, City and Arsenal is a good sign. Only one game but a big game nonetheless!

Genuinely huge result in terms of getting some momentum in to this season. In truth we didn't deserve it but will take it all day long. Would have been great if Di Maria could have finished off that one on one, not only to make the final minutes less edgy but also for his own confidence.

That is true, very bizarre it wasn't talked about. Normally when a player leaves and elbow in or anything the discuss it. Wilshere should thank his lucky stars Fellaini didn't make a meal of it.

    No word on Shaw yet?

Southampton ahould be the next team to come back to Earth. Next 5 games includes, City, Arsenak, Us and Everton. They have Chelsea in their next 7 as well.

The more daylight we put between us and the likes of Spurs and Pool the better. Top 4 is the ultimate goal this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,721 ✭✭✭Al Capwned

Al's a happy camper after that result today.

I love our keeper, I really do. We should break records to make sure he stays for years to come.

Well if you take Southampton out if it. We are third.

Don't see why we can't get third

Wilshere tried to headbutt Fellaini twice, and the ref didn't even book him.

Great result, even with the injury list, but hey United beat Arsenal with 7 defenders before soo....:D

Hopefully F.A. will intervene and punish Wilshire. Though he will prob be injured for most of it.

Can they not? I was under the impression that if the red takes no action on the field I.e. A yellow or red the FA can take action?

Or is it something about the refs match report it depends on?

The ref seen it and decided there was no action to be taken, so it was dealt with already.

I suppose it is a red in today's game but I'm glad he wasn't sent off for it, it was a little hissy fit and he squared up to Fellaini, it would be an insult to Yosser Hughes, Mickah Wallace and Begby to call it a headbutt. There was nothing violent about it.

Just about missed out on a nice few quid with a United -1 bet in those last few minutes, but I was none-the-less elated when the final whistle blew and we left the Emirates with 3 points.

There's no denying things are slowly on the up in spite of a nightmare injury list and partly self-made defensive problems. That win yesterday was absolutely gigantic considering we haven't had an away win since April, and like games against Everton and Chelsea, we are picking up points in games where we were hammered/well beaten last season. Yes I remember that Arsenal were the only top team not to beat United last season, but defeating the top teams home and away is what needs to be done once again and Arsenal, despite a looming crisis, are still arguably one of those top teams.

Hyperbole is an easily parted with currency in an aftermath like one following yesterday's game, but fúck it I'm going to spend it anyway; Marouane Fellaini is turning out to be an immense player for our team, never mind our squad. And that is in a good way, not in the 'sure there's no one else there to do any better' kind of way. If he keeps progressing in the current direction, he'd have to be first name on the teamsheet for CM no matter who else is available. I'm delighted for him; In today's social media-driven world players are well familiar with fan opinion (look at T-Clev) and he would be in no doubt as to what actual United fans have written about him in the last 18 months. I'm also delighted for United, considering the results of his upturn and the £29m investment.

I hope Jack Wilshire rewatches that altercation with Fellaini and dies a little inside each time. Although knowing the character of Jack, he will probably think "I showed him!"...

I haven't posted in here in over a month or so, and one of the last times I did I remember commenting on RVP's slow start to the season despite LVG giving him ample opportunity to get back in form. Well one month later and after another all-too-quiet shift yesterday, I'm certain that our current best starting 11 does not include RVP. Even though Falcao is injured, I would have Mata or Herrera taking a place on the field instead of RVP for the next few matches. Yesterday he completed 2 passes, one of which included a kick-off, is that stat for real?? If so, it speaks volumes of his current form.

We next have 2 home games coming up against Hull and Stoke, it goes without saying the United of old would have taken 6 points from these games 9 times out of 10. These days it isn't so certain, remember West Brom most recently, Burnley and Leicester earlier, though I do see the team progressing and an actual belief and passion returning to performances as each game goes by, something which wasn't last seen since April 2013.

6 points from the next 2 home games is well achievable I.M.O. and anything less, bar maybe a fluke from Stoke, will be a setback to this progression we've been seeing. I'm not counting the City game as a setback as such, Smalling killed that game for us as I believe there was a point or 3 there for the taking from that City side had Smalling's brain not shat its frontal lobe.

This season overall is the strangest I remember in recent memory. It is the kind of league which can see Newcastle go from propping up the league table for a few weeks, to now just being outside 4th due to goal difference within a month or so. That same effect has benefited us and it is the main reason we are now in fourth with a realistic chance of moving higher, and not otherwise staring up the table from 10th-12th spot as a return of 19/36 points in your first 12 games should normally leave a club.

Not the point though, why such inconsitancy with relation to this type of decision. I was raging yesterday that wilshere didn't get red. If fellaini did it he would have been off. If you square up to someone like that your only looking for one thing

I'm not saying he shouldn't have got the red, I already said that in today's game it is a sending off offence. I just don't think it should be a red regardless of the player, it would have gone down as violent conduct when it clearly wasn't.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,758 ✭✭✭✭RobertKK

Did De Gea remind anyone else yesterday of Peter Schmeichel in the way he played?

I don't mean all the roaring and shouting that Peter did but in terms of play.
