Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Lads need help with this

What footballer has played in these 5 major derbies: Glasgow Derby, Tyneside Derby, Manchester Derby, Merseyside Derby and North London Derby?

    As quick as possible :D

With a history of injuries and into his 30s now...would probably cost 25 odd million too. Would be a good signing for Fifa but I'd rather sign the next Robben while LVG is there to coach him than go all out for 1 or 2 seasons.

I would rather sign the best winger in the world and get two or three years out of him.

Reus has had two serious injuries already and is 25.

To say Robben is approaching MLS standard is just disrespectful. He has been the best player for the 2nd best team in the world the last few seasons and was fantastic at the World Cup.

If you have a chance to sign the best winger in the world you certainly don't turn him down to have maybe the future Robben who is known for injuries.

Their are times when opinions are wrong and this is one of those times.

Shaqiri might be the most overrated player in the world.

I would've said Bellamy until I saw the North London derby.

For the record, I have no issue with anybody disrespecting Arjen Robben in anyway shape or form:D

Is reus really that injury prone, or is it because he got an injury before the world cup and now for the transfer window, when the spotlight is on him?

So close with Bobby Mimms.. but not him..

My mate sent this question into Talk Sport and they can't figure it out.. I wonder if it's a fake question.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭Crimson King

thought I had it with Peter Beardsley, with a cheat for North London Derby being Fulham. But nope, they are South London

And then realised he never played in Glasgow Derby so I was WAY off..D'OH!

Is the London derby Chelsea-qpr or arsenal-spurs?
    Or the wimbledons?

    Trick question?

Question is a bit flawed. There is no Tyneside Derby, there's a Tyne-Wear Derby and a Tyne-Tees Derby. Guess it means Tyne-Wear.

    I'm not sure..

    What is Tyen-Wear ? vs Tyne-Tees ?

I was assuming they meant Sunderland and Newcastle

Great question! One that's easy to confirm by Google but difficult / impossible to find the answer to that way. Those are hard to come up with.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 488 ✭✭Rob Thomas

I think this question is a mistake, there are several variations of it, quoting the Milan derby or Classico instead of another one. Answers were Paul Stewart, Kanchelskis, Paul Ince, Ziege, Andy Cole, Trevor Francis etc depending on which games were quoted.

But I don think they ever had a player who played in the games quoted in this variation of the question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,356 ✭✭✭NeVeR

The answer has to be in by 2 .. and I won't get the answers until Monday -- I'll post when I get it..

I've a strong feeling there is some trick to the question.. while the other questions are standard . i've a feeling the quiz-master made a mistake with this.

but i hope i'm wrong and I hope there is a correct answer.

I'm pretty sure no player has played in all five.

Unless its some pre-war player we have rarely heard of.

Three new signings next summer is more than enough if we go after quality rather than quantity - and is dependent on whether we sign Falcao too.

Our youth team is producing some good talent at the moment and if we are to get into the CL next season, the games that the likes of Blackett, Wilson and McNair have played this year will be important when we have to rotate and we know we can put these guys in at CB or CF for a game here and there to give the starting XI a rest.

We shouldn't abandon youth for the sake of just throwing money around the place and equally we shouldn't just hold on in hope that a youth player is going to make it. The players have to force themselves into the reckoning like Wilson has done the last season or so. His start the last day was on merit (granted Falcao wasn't fit) and he's looking like the heir to RVP's throne in a few years. There's something exciting about seeing a player developed by the club come through. I see even today Joe Rothwell is up training with the first team squad this week.

Hopefully next season the squad looks something like this.

    GK: De Gea, Lindegaard, Amos.
    RB: New RB, Rafael.
    LB: Shaw, Rojo.
    LCB: New CB, Evans, Blackett.
    RCB: Smalling, Jones, McNair.
    CM: Blind, Fellaini, Herrera, Carrick.
    LM: Di Maria, Januzaj.
    RM: New RM, Young, Valencia.
    CF: Mata, Rooney.
ST: Van Persie, Falcao (if stays) Wilson.

That's more than enough to cover all competitions with the likes of Michael Keane, Will Keane and Ben Pearson also likely to be around next season for Carling Cup etc. If we just buy top quality players for those 3 positions then we'll be doing well.

It's so bizarre that someone would hav played for any combinations.

    Utd or city
    Celtic or rangers
    Spurs or arsenal
    Newcastle or Sunderland
    Liverpool or Everton

Has to go back about 50 years

    Never played in North London?

    Craig Bellamy

Didnt play in North London. Played London derbies for West Ham alright.

This question is too specific for there to be a right answer it seems.

if its actually a correct question, then happy days but be careful, you could end up wrecking your head and it turns out to be a complete waste of your time!

I'm half tempted to pull together a list of all the players ever to play for all 10 clubs, stick them in a database, and get the answer. But only half.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,181 ✭✭✭Crimson King

I know Matt Busby played in and captained Man City and Liverpool, and also played a handful of games for Chelsea and Middlesborough . I don't ever recall reading anywhere that he played for the Glasgow giants though despite being Scottish of course.

I think the question is incorrect..

Paul Stewart has played in the most derbies in Britain

    Man City
    Tottenham
    Liverpool
    Sunderland

Done that with a list of United, City, Arsenal & Tottenham player and names that came up on both those pairs didn't appear for all 5.

Has to be a trick question, or non men's football.
Or insane such as a player was a youth player for some of the 10 teams before turning pro.

edit. Can a Merseyside derby include Tranmere?

Apparent quote doing the rounds -
Layvin Kurzawa (AS Monaco): The club of my dreams? Manchester United. And it's one of my goals to play there one day." [le10sport]

He's a very good player from what i've seen of him. Plays left back and left midfield.
