    Hi

    I was looking for more info on becoming a trainee undertaker i am out of work at the moment searching jobs doing interviews going no where i live in Wexford a friend of mine works abroad in undertaking said maybe its something i should look into here was wondering has anyone done this here how do you go about it. All undertaking business seems to be family owned seems be hard to get into was looking for info if anyone has any ideas about how to go about it yes be hard job on body and mind but i think am fit for it ty.

    I'd ask an undertaker. I'd be pretty clear though about explaining the reasons behind wanting to work with corpses. I'd imagine it's an industry with a potential to attract the less 'normal' among us....

    No harm in approaching your local undertakers and asking if they need any assistance from time to time eg for pall bearing, driving a hearse or family car, grave digging. Let them have your number and ensure that you have a good black suit, heavy overcoat and clean shoes. As you know with the nature of the business, it cannot be planned in advance and a way to get in is to be the someone he can call on at short notice when he is stuck for assistance.


    As other people have said it tends to be a family business and undertakers tend to be in it for the long haul, it is not something you dip into because you are out of work.
