Hard really to talk about it until the draw is actually made.

In Connaught Galway will play at home if they are to meet Mayo or Roscommon so that will be an advantage for them.
I'm not sure who is going to NY and London.
And I'm not sure if any team has a bye to the SF already or whether its determined on the night.

In Munster Cork and Kerry get byes to the SF, but can be drawn against each other in the SF.

Does anyone know if they are keeping the A/B system ?
It was not great last year but the was just the way the draw went.
What I dislike about it most is that it really limits the All Ireland QF draw.

Can't say the A/B really added anything to the Championship at all except predictability. But it remains as far as I know.

The apparent advantages for scheduling didn't seem so apparent to me to be honest.

    ---

I'll wager on Ulster going like this:

    A side:
Derry and Monaghan in the preliminary
    Antrim to play the winner

    Donegal v Fermanagh

    B Side:
    Armagh v Tyrone

    Down v Cavan

    Munster:

    Clare v Limerick
    winner to play Kerry

    Waterford v Tipp
    winner to play Cork

and on it goes because who gives a ****e about the Munster football championship.

    Leinster:

    Laois/Louth v Kildare

    Wicklow/Carlow v Wexford

    Wexford/Longford v Meath

    Offaly v Dublin

    Connacht:
Mayo will win and play Roscommon in a SF or Final. I have no notion how they decide Connacht usually.

New York v Galway, London v Roscommon and one of leitrim,Sligo or Mayo will have bye into the Connacht semi final.

Who will the first poster be if Kerry and Cork manage to avoid each other will say it was a fix :) ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,750 ✭✭✭iDave

Dublin, Meath, Kildare and Wexford will be kept apart at QF stage I think.
Hope I'm wrong but Dublin will waltz their way to the final again with the opposition that will lose to them being Kildare or Meath.

    Sure why not. :)

Anyone know what order it all goes off tonight?

They will indeed be kept apart as they were semi finalists this year.

    Waterford v Tipp -

    Clare v Limerick -

Winner of Clare v Limerick versus Cork -

Winner of Waterford v Tipp versus Kerry -

So Clare v Kerry Munster final looks the likeliest....... :)

Looks like no AB side setup.

    Thank God

When you watch the Munster draw it really just winds you up no end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,465 ✭✭✭✭Fr Tod Umptious

Opps looks like there is AB

    Thank God

Are you talking about in the qualifiers?

I'd be assuming it would be the same as last year (for the same reason - avoiding the 6 day turn-around)

Good thing you werent around when Kerry used to get a bye straight to the Munster final to save the weaker teams being embarrassed.

Mayo are playing Roscommon in the final.

3 games to win an All-Ireland. Surely that's a soft one then? :)

Looks like Roscommon the big winners in Connacht - nice route to a Connacht final and even if they lose they are still deep into the business end of things.

Not Kerry's fault if the other Munster teams were scared to even turn up on to the pitch

Tyrone preliminary round for the 2nd year running AND against Donegal - OUCH

    I'll call them soft so.

    Armagh/Donegal/Tyrone OUCH OUCH

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,286 ✭✭✭seligehgit

God Ulster is such a tough province to win.Nothing easy for Donegal or Tyrone for that matter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,085 ✭✭✭✭BonnieSituation

    Jaysus.

Donegal v Tyrone in the preliminary round.

The A side is weak as is possible.

    Monaghan into that final.
    The B side is mental.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭Boom__Boom

    Monaghan absolutely laughing

Not if you're Monaghan -all they have to do to get to an Ulster final is beat Cavan and one of Fermanagh or Antrim.

Ok have to avoid the B side

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,115 ✭✭✭Boom__Boom

Be interesting to see how this affects the bookies odds on things.

Monaghan are still 40/1 on Paddypower - few quid e/w might be worth a punt

Mayo are playing Roscommon in the final.

Don't think Mayo will have it all their own way, away to Galway in the semis. Both teams with new management.

Roscommon should beat Sligo though. Especially at home.

Are armagh at home or away to the winners of donegal/tyrone

They won't have it their own way. But they'll beat Galway.

Marty Morrissey just said they've labeled them A or B in RTÉ

Will possibly depend on who wins and whose turn it is.

B side in Leinster the place to be.

Don't think Mayo will be as strong without Horan but it remains to seen.

Big winners Monaghan and Roscommon and probably Meath in Leinster - fairly handy route to a Leinster final.

What chance us Dub fans allowed back to Longford, as an away game, our first since Longford 2006?

    Or Tullamore?

Armagh will be at home if Donegal win, away if Tyrone win.

Sure, we don't like to travel us Dubs.

I would love to head away for that match. But it'll be in Croker.

So that is a neutral venue. So yet again Dublin won't get a home game. It would be nice to get one for a change.

Would be good to see Dublin in Tullamore or Pearse. Time for a change.
Also hoping Leinster semi isnt a double header.

Ha ha. Do you dare make that argument loudly?

I would prefer a trip down to Longford or T'more for a game. Decent day out instead of Ballybough or Donneycarney.

Tullamore or Longford would be great. Unlikely though, as is Parnell Park, so a neutral venue in Dublin 3 it will probably be.

Dull as usual except Ulster... roll on August....

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Are the qualifiers going to be in A and B sides again this year? And if so who is on which side?

It's funny, but despite all the bad press Ulster football gets, their games will be the only thing that keeps us going until August as it seems to be going from previous years. The time to change the championship format must be drawing closer

The A and B sides were on the screen in the studio. But nothing to the contrary has been mentioned.

Marty Morrissey seemed to infer that RTÉ just did it for clarity.

So to answer your question, I don't know.

    ---

    From the screen graphics:

    Connacht:

    A-
    London/Roscommon v Sligo

    B-
    NY/Galyway/Leitrim v Mayo

    Leinster:

    A-
    Offaly/ Longford v Dublin
    Laois/Carlow v Kildare

    B-
    Louth/Westmeath v Wexford
    Wicklow v Meath

    Ulster:

    A-
    Cavan v Monaghan
    Fermanagh v Antrim

    B-
    Tyrone/Donegal v Armagh
    Derry v Down

    Munster:
Wasn't labeled A and B but based on A being top of the screen and B being bottom of the screen like the rest, we have:

    A-
    Clare/Limerick v Cork

    B-
    Waterford/Tipperary v Kerry
