There is nothing "to be fair" in that statement. Are you seriously taking the onus of the government for their implementation of the private entity that is irish water. Hand washing at is best. You must work in the dept.

lol.. you must not have read too many of my posts regarding politics in this country if you think I work for FG :p

Oh goody. First Mick, now here's his buddy Clare Daly.

She's the one who used expenses for things she shouldn't have, so now it's her turn to stand there and pontificate.

What about USC and VRT at the rates we pay, is that in other countries?

I don't know, rates of everything vary across countries, including social protection rates.

The requirement to adopt certain charing provisions is however consistent across the EU generally, though often the process and the amount of such charges is left to national competence

Don't quote me on it but I believe there is percentage of 54 percent on 30 k and over middle income 32 percent on under 30k lower paid, and 13 percent on over 75 grand higher earners. Or so I read. So until the higher end of the middle income feel sting or speak up if they are, there will be no change.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,280 ✭✭✭Davarus Walrus

Most people on AH are deluded enough to see themselves as middle income earners by the looks of it :pac:

Despite Ireland having one of the highest rates of low paying jobs in the world

You might want to stop being in such a state of perpetual outrage for a while, and investigate why the countries listed are the ones shown.

Can't do both horse. Can't be giving those who don't have work more, while also giving breaks to the middle. The figures just don't add up.

its not about giving breaks to the middle. its about giving incentive to start-up in the first place.

have you tried to start a small business in this country? they constantly turn away people who have ideas that could provide 1 or 2 wages because i guess it's too small fry. if you try to get an enterprise loan they will dicatate what it can or cant be spent on, regardless of the particular business/industry needs.

the only other option is investors. there aint many investing right now.

I presume it's that voice of the common man, Wallace?

What a disgusting shyster. The very definition of a hypocrite.

He blew the lid on what was going on with penalty points which is more than the suited shysters managed to do.

AND he is asking very pertinent questions about how exactly Denis O Brien got his hands all over our water...again, more than the suited shysters are doing.

As for hypocrites sitting in the Dail - there's a good few sitting there in the front claiming to be members of a socialist political party founded by James Connolly.

That's not quite correct Clare. 100,000 is never the equivalent of 1 million.

Where's the outrage in what I said?

If you have anything of construct to add then I'm all ears, but if you're going to repeatedly reply to what I say by claiming that I'm outraged, kindly stick me on ignore or don't bother engaging.

Fact is that Ireland has the second highest percentage of low earners in the world, despite so many people convincing themselves that they belong to the 'squeezed middle'

    Buzzwords indeed

I learned today that middle and high earners pay 80% of income tax and URSC while only making up 24% of the population.

I think that's a very interesting piece of information.

On the question of 'what is a high earner', I was reading this a few days ago... not sure how it stacks up, but this article (via 'Nevin Economic Research Institute ') suggests that on an individual basis, 60k+ is top 10% territory in Ireland.

Claire Daly is a decent sort with a lot of back bone and puts her money where her mouth is. At least people in her constiuncey know her and actually see her when no elections on. I have not seen a ff lab fg member anywhere in my area since las t GE. Even then they didn't want to speak to the likes of me with no money for their pockets.

Should we be comparing our economy to sub saharan african ones?

we all do. but our social system doesnt make a public declaration of who is in what situation and why.

do we want to be the society that boots everyone in need because of a few who take advantage?

No, we want to make sure that it's not a life style choice and have sufficient measures in place to ensure, insofar as possible that those who should be able to work, do actually work
