Disappearing pears

Last Monday I had a lot of pears on my tree. Yesterday they were gone.
    What happened.
I saw 2 on the ground with marks on them but most were gone.

I have that problem with my apples and its the birds, esp once the fruit is ripe in any way. Cleaned me out this year. If you look at the holly trees when their berries are starting to go red, the birds seem to have a preference for some trees (possibly sweeter berries) and go for them, clearing them out first.

    Thanks oldtree.
Saw crows eating the apples from a tree but not the pears.
Should I have cores on the ground or do they fly away with them.

:D they seem to take them all away here, cores and all. Find the odd one with a few pecks out of it on the ground but that soon dissappears too.

We managed to save about 20 pears from them but not one single plum, they guzzled every last one of them. :(
