Following on from Zascairs thread about chain lubrication, the TDM doesn't come with a centre stand  . Its a real pain in the hoop to clean and oil the chain on the side stand. Any recommendations for a paddock stand that can lift a heavy bike? by one person?

Harris make the best stands I've used , they're more expensive than a lot of stands but are worth the money .

These will do the Tdm no problem Skill!

The alu ones from him are top class and for 100 Euro there brilliant value.

I had Oxford ones and it always felt abit dodge lifting the bike.

Those you can do it easily with one hand and one to steady the bike

    cheers blade, just ordered one.

I have one the same and I use it on a ZZR1400.

I have bobbins on my swingarm so I bought adaptors for it.
You might want to glue a bit of rubber on your adaptors in case it marks your swingarm!

If you bike has threaded holes for bobbins, get them and stand that lifts bobbins, the one you linked is a pain in the hole. Look at the way the stand lifts the bike, you want this kind if the bike will take it.

I'm not much of a fan of the front stands linked either. I've been using a similar one for a few years, they never feel fully secure, the bottom of fork legs are usually at different heights.
You might not have a choice in that one though, the tdm might be too tall for a headstock stand.

I'm going to buy this set when I have the money for it. Front and rear for €78, you could message them to find out if a tdm is too big.

In my defence, I started typing that before you said you'd ordered. :D

You can always get these in future if you feel like it.

Do I need bobbins with the stand I ordered? Are they universal?

What's the opinion on ABBA superbike stand? Looks very easy to use and fairly compact when not in use.

On the downside, it's fairly expensive!

The bike raiser stand is a great, friend got one for his GSXR two weeks ago.

Only thing is they are bike specific, but got a good few free bits with his order.

I have the aluminium stands myself very good, good price there I paid a good bit more for mine last year.

Got the stand, and by jaysus I don't think it can be raised by one person.Looks like you'ld need one person to stand the bike upright (standing astride the front wheel and holding the handlebars), whilst the other sort of scoops the bike onto the stand.
I tried raising it from the side stand to the paddock, with no success. Then I tried keeping the bike as upright as I could holding it from the back, but that was an accident waiting to happen!

So, I just put it back on the side stand near a wall, and jacked it up till the rear wheel was off the ground, and the handlebars touched the wall, and span the wheel applying atf.

The paddock stand is well made and the tdm fits, its just a 2 person job imo

must be the way you are doing it Skill!

I can lift my ZZR no problem and the tdm is way lighter than that.

Try youtube or something for some tips maybe.

More than likely blade, I don't even lift bro!

Aha, a block of wood under the side stand is the trick!

Do you have a grab rail to hold the bike up with? Hold that with one hand and the stand with the other.
If you don't, you need to put a piece of timber or something under the kickstand to hold the bike up at just under 90 degrees.

    Yep, just copped it

It's like everything you try for the first time , it'll be tricky till you get the knack . I leave the side stand down incase anything happens and I can let the bike back down .

Another option is to remove the seat and hold it by the subframe. Probably too much hassle if the seat is bolted on.

Is it bike specific? It looks like the width can be adjusted for different sized bikes.
Looks handy for taking the front or rear suspension off.

How come you didn't just buy a mainstand?

I'm getting myself a Bursig stand for my Speed Triple when I have the cash. Lifts the entire bike using the frame as a pivot point.

Cheers CJ, German ebay wouldn't have been on my radar!
Using google translate, it looks like he is open to offers, but not sure whether he will post to Ireland.

I have often found that if you contact them and ask they will post to Ireland.
Some may or may not but its worth a try, or if you know anyone over there they can post it back to you?
