Rang Eircom about getting broadband but they said that the Toomevara area is not DSL enabled so no fixed line broadband available via any provider.

Does anyone know a way around this? Feel a bit dumb getting a smart TV now....

    Hi Rescue Me

I have just looked into this and as you have been advised unfortunately Toomevara is not a DSL Broadband enabled exchange.

I appreciate this is frustrating; You may be able to receive advise from neighbours in the area as regards possible alternatives in you area.

    thanks

Any reason why Toomevara is being discriminated against?

    Hi Rescue Me

I am sorry I know it is frustrating when you cannot get Broadband. I don't think it is a case of discriminating as such but we do advise Customers that Broadband is not a guaranteed service from Eircom

Colm, I'm not suggesting it's a deliberate discrimination but was a decision was made by someone to say Toomevara was not worthwhile/cost effective to enable the exchange?  What is the reasoning for this decision and how likely is it to be addressed?

    Hi Rescue Me

There may have been a decision made in this respect but I do not have detailed access to the Eircom Network planning decision making process to be able to tell you definitively why this was done/ by whom etc. I can only re-iterate that Broadband is not a guaranteed Eircom service and while there may be plans to enable your exchange in the future I have not received any notification of this in the most recent deployment plans available to me.

Too small an area. Just one of a number of small exchanges around the country that are not economically viable to roll out broadband. Toomevara is included in the new NBP which was announced in April

Indicative list of towns for fibre-build out under National Broadband Plan
This document is an initial indicative list, presented County by County, of locations to be connected
by fibre under the National Broadband Plan announced by the Minister for Communications on 24
April 2014. It is the assessment to date available to Government in mid April 2014 and is subject to
revision upon the completion of the comprehensive mapping process currently underway. Further
locations may be identified as the mapping process continues. Similarly, it may be determined that
some of the locations will be addressed by the commercial sector and accordingly will not require a
    State intervention.
