    Hi all
I need a PC for Revit ( fairly process hungry 3d CAD package ).
Lots of research later I understand that I need a good PC ( coming from mac world I thought a few hundred quid would sort it but it wont ) that has an i7 processor, lots of ram,SSD and a good graphics card etc.

The graphic card requirements are min 2mb and a workstation level card preferable over a gaming card.

Anyway where is a good online spot to buy a PC.
Dell etc are there but I'm constantly reading that their stuff is overpriced and not at the races for my requirements.

I havent bought a PC in a long time so where's it at for bang for buck.
I don't want to build my own......

thanks again and I know this has been asked to death but where would one buy a well specced quality PC that wont break the bank !!

For the spec you are thinking of, it will cost a bit either way but if dont want to build check out Pcspecialist which gives you lots of options regarding customisation of components, overclockers uk and scan have pre-built pcs, and if you post up on the building and upgrading forum, they will help you choose components which if ordered off hardwareversand, they will build it for 20 euros. This last option is the cheapest most likley

    Thanks Lu
that pcspecialist is a good site for getting a feel for build options.
will have a look on hardwareversand.

actually Dells T1700 workstation is now in the mix cost and spec wise.

I'd stay away from PC Specialist. Badly overpriced.

Best site to use is hardwareversand.de as its the cheapest and excellent customer service. Fill out the sticky in the PC Building and Upgrading forum and someone will help you out with a build. They put the PC together for you for 30 euro

Basically the lads will pick all top quality parts for your budget.

Hardwareversand are a top component supplier alright, but i have been surprised at the amount people reporting problems on the B&U forum when they have had them build it. Obviously only people with problems will report back, but i cant imagine there are thousands frequenting the forum who are buying pre-assembled PCs off hardwarevesand, which might indicate it happens frequently enough.

They also dont install graphics cards (to avoid damage/displacement in transport) as far as i know, so if you really dont want to open the case at all then thats a limitation. That said, its probably the easiest thing to do inside a PC outside of replacing RAM.

Thanks all. I wouldn't mind opening the box and installing an extra HD or two and Ram & graphics card. My big concern is two months in and i need to lift the phone or net chat for support. How are the German lads for support ?

I'm veering towards either Novatech or Dell for the support etc.

Hows your german! They apparently have english speakers, but im not sure if they have proper tech support people for talking through problems. They mainly supply components, so usually if something isnt working you send it back (a bit like amazon - they arent going to offer tech support either).

Its a trade off obviously, worth pricing up the equivalent of the dell or novatech computer on hardwareversand and the price difference is in essence what you are paying for the support. Worth it to some people not to others. Also depends how much your time is worth, if its a work computer how much of your time would that price difference buy you (at your charge out rate) if you had to try and fix it yourself.

Yea it will be a work comp. a couple of hundred euros is prob not much for a lost day or two scratching my head looking at a non-supported workstation.

My latest thinking is to buy the Dell pc , buy a samsung SSD off amazon etc. and when the new pc arrives ( before installing anything ) clone the HD onto the SSD and then boot off ssd and have the hd as storage etc.

Is this a fairly easy thing to do ??? and be fairly fool proof !!!
