Despite the performance, 0-0 at half time is excellent so far. We have done ok at taking the life out of the game as well, which is handy and has their fans a bit subdued. Not holding my breath or a anything, but I really didn't expect us to be going into the second half with a chance of getting something.

Hamilton bitching for 45 minutes then as soon as the whistle blows it was a half "well worked" and a job "well done". Lolz.

plenty of possession from the Germans but not too many chances... need someone with pace up front to offer something for the counter

We are playing the world champions in their own backyard.

Play an open game and we'd be beaten by 5 or 6

We could try retain possession of put 5/6/7 passes together.

In saying that I'm happy with HT score obviously

Germany are pretty poor it has to be said. Against a team that doesn't even want to be there it seems.

The Germans should shut up shop now and take the point.

I remember when Roy Keane got a yellow card against Holland in 2001, within seconds.
And people called him a hero for trying to break Overmars up.

Whelan tries to break up the germans most influential player.
Gets called braindead, and everyone wants him off.

Whelan has done fudge all. He has passed the ball to players in worse positions putting the team under pressure, rather than trying to keep the ball and move it forward to take pressure off.

Then he commits a brain dead tackle when the possession is ours. He is having a mare.

Far be it from me to often agree with Dunphy but he summed up Whelan very we'll a couple of years ago quite accurately ...
"A terrible player, He can't run, He can't pass, He can't tackle. He can't see anything...And he drives two Ferraris!"

And I'd add to that.. He has xx Irish caps... How ? Un****ingreal. And some people are calling for Mcgeady to get the hook ?

Woeful to watch but effective. Can't really expect expansive stuff away to the world champs but it us worrying how uncomfortable our players look on the ball.

Poor German team, they are there for the taking on the counter but we have nobody on the field to punish their high line and dont they just know it

Must say O'Neill has got it right tactically.

We've restricted the world champions to a few half chances.

    1st half thoughts:
Walters running backwards is hypnotic. He must have been a boxer at some point.
Hummels realized after about 20 mins that he can just stay in midfield.
Wilson did a lovely feint that left Muller on his arse
McGeady seems to think he's still playing Gibraltar.
Forde thought he was Neuer at the 30min mark. Unfortunately he's Forde.

When Germany have the ball, we are wrecked from chasing shadows. It must be so tiring.
And when the germans lose the ball, they hunt with such speed and in packs to get it back.
The Irish players dont have a time to think and look for a pass.

Ireland remind me of Aston Villa, well set up defensively, holding their positions and structure well, good discipline etc but Germany have so much ball you have to fear they will eventually find a way to break em down.

Would like to see McGeady get on the ball more but can't complain too much to be drawing at half time especially with Scotland & Poland drawing atm

Does RTE make the intro for the ad breaks?

They seem very high quality for our national broadcaster.

As negative as I have been, Germany have had 2 shots on target and we have made it to HT at 0-0.

It is working but it is a dangerous game. Would like to see McGeady moved out wide for Walters.

A bit less of a panic on the ball and we could keep this point.

Germany are the world champions and do people not realise that the Irish are followiing a plan.

Just because it's negative it does not mean they do not want to be there.

    Haha. good one.

The germans have a poor team, haha.
They are playing terrible. Terrible I tells ya

Push mcgeady on the wing. The plan with lumping the ball to walters is daft. If we want to continue using that tactic then move him upfront instead of robbie.

  • Registered Users Posts: 198 ✭✭LordAwesome

We need to show off our Long Cox up front. Give the German the Willies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,019 ✭✭✭✭adox

McGeady out wide running at players is the obvious change and the only real out ball Ireland can hope for. Will O Neill sacrifice the perceived better defensive work rate of Walters to do it?

Delighted with 0-0 but that's more down to the Germans than us if we are honest. Let's hope they are as ineffectual in the final third in th second half as they were in the first.

A draw would be a great result and performance would instantly be forgotten.

Hes walking around in midfield with the ball and not one tackle on him , Second half hes be playing center forward !

I don't think we are that tired to be honest. One (the only?) good thing we have done outside of not conceding has been slowing the game down and sucking the life out of it a bit. Now Germany have played a role in that too of course, but it has been very useful for us - especially with Schurrle not available, because he frightens the life out of me as a sub option.

Agree with the panel, the Germans haven't been great. We can't keep giving the ball away though.

Dunno what channel it is but Alan McAnally commentating and he's been very complimentary about Irelands performance so far. Ronnie and big G are too sour I had to turn off RTE stream makes for a much better viewing. I think the lads have done great so far. A point in Germany would be a huge result.

Germany are missing 7 players. This is not the team that won the World Cup.

I shudder to think what Klose, Shweinsteiger, Lahm.. etc would do to us.

I seen umpteen positive passes on on a number of occasions but rather than attempt them we went back to keeper and punted it long.

    Thats fairly obvious.

Thing is if we concede I can actually see us trying to play
